hare krishna,
there are i think 6 sanskars that a man(not women) are supposed to undergo in one's lifetime. the janaiu( sacred thread ) ceremony is one of them.what is it? what is its relevance in the kaliyug? should it be performed even though the person may not be able to follow the regulations associated with it?

One does certain rights to become more Krishna conscious, if thats not the goal then you are wasting your time and there's always the circle of birth and death that awaits.
Hare krishna prabhu ji,
This is a practical issue that iam faced with now. In the traditional hindu family the sacred thread ceremony is held for the boy child. I wanted to know the reasons behind it, the regulative principles associated with it. my son says, and i also agree with him, if he is not sure of being able to follow those injunctions will it not be better not have it done rather than disrespect it by wearing it and not follow the regulations. My father in law feels since its a family tradition it should be followed anyhow . Rituals for the sake for rituals. I want to be able to answer him without him feeling offended or disrespected.
