Query

Hare Krishna everyone, please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. I have a doubt. I read that the subtle body which is mind, intelligence and false ego remains with the soul till the soul is in the material world. Suppose a person has some mental illness. Will that illness continue in the next life too?

    Hare Krsna

Will that illness continue in the next life too?

It depends on the karma of the individual. The mental illness is a result of some past bad karma (as are all diseases). If the result of that past bad karma has been exhausted, then it will not affect next life. But if it is due to severe bad karma then it may continue over mutiple lifetimes also.

I know that the above answer is not useful. If one takes to Krsna consciousness and tries to genuinely serve Sri Krsna by chanting of the divine names of - Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

then as an insignificant by product of chanting holy names of Krsna with love, all sinful reactions of many many lifetimes can be exhausted quickly

  • Hare Krishna,

Ilness or suffering be it mental illness or physcial illiness or psychosomatic illness all are related to body or the matter.. and all these sufferings are coming to you according to the previous karma you did.. To make you suffer for the sins you did in past life.. isn't it? some part you suffer in hell some portion of the past bad deeds you suffer in the human body on the earth.

Once you suffer for the bad deed done in ur past life.. you payed back for it in full by suffering that mental condition or phsysical illness... isn't it. then the karma is neutralized.. bad karma is neutralized with the suffering undergone. How then will you take the memory of that back with you to next life?

    “poorva janmaarjitham vyadhi roopena jaayathe”

Poorva Janma kritam papam vyadhi roopena badhatey |

vyadhi =sickness be it mind or body sickness.

poorva janam past life arjita--earned karma.

Mind is like a data base. It records all you day to day activities.. It has all the information of pastlife, present life in the form of memories.

you give pain to others... you suffer for it .. and when payed back the memory is removed from the database.

If suppose you are mentally ill and in that condition also you are not correcting yourself and surrendering to Krishna or still performing bad activities.. you will pay for it.

If you surrender to Krishna and say ok .. I don't know how to complete this karma..I am unable to get rid of this karma bondage and start taking Lord's name.. and do Nishkaam karma.. that is bhakti. Then yah....Krishna promises in the BG that he will remove all ur sins and make you pure.

"Sarva dharman parityajya mam ekam sharanam vraja, ahantva sarva paapebyo moksha iccha mi maa suchaha" (BG 18.66)

    Hare Krishna.

  • I cannot understand how a disease eg. Mental illness, which is a dis ease affecting an earthly human body can affect the atman which is the energy of Krishna in an earthly vehicle for the atman. It is not my understanding that even the subtle body can transmit disease belonging to a shed human body as the disease frequency ( vibration) is separate from the vibration of the atman, and cannot because it is earthly and material, attach itself thereto. I have learned that even the greatest tragedy, emotional pain etc cannot in ANY form or fashion damage the atman, so I'm not aware of any harm that could attach from disease in the material world. Hare Krishna🙏

  • No mental illness will not remain but what he thinks at the time of death Or the consciousness he had a time of death according to that he gets another body in next birth
