Vaishnavism is to understand the significance of leading a highly principled and disciplined life following morals and ethics by following all the 4 regulative principles Plus also knowing that you belong to Krishna and your duty is to give pleasure to Krishna that is by serving Krishna.
Now, there are many people who are leading good principled life and also following regulative principles also but not having any higher taste to know about Krishna.
An atheist who believes in Karma will lead a regulated principled life and does practice regulative principles and does dharma artha kama also but he has no taste for Krishna bhakti?
Vedas only deal with DHARMA, ARTHA, KAMA and MOKSHA. these people Brahmins esp. those who regliously do all ritualistic karma kanda and lead a life of regulative principles but have no taste of knowing about Krishna or practicing bhakti they are just going to be coming back again to pracitce bhakti in next life time.
Many Buddhists are doing all 4 regulative principles of Mecry cleanliness, Austerities, Truthfulness ( like Japa and Tapa and Upavasa) .. no gambling, no meat eating .. no illicit sex and no intoxications..
Vedas also preach only about DHARMA, ARTHA, KAMA and MOKSHA . But really speaking the mere doing or practicing 4 regulative principles is fine but not having any interest to know about Krishna
or What is the purpose of life .. Living just for attain Moksha or Nirvana is not recommended by Vaishnavism.
Vaishnavism is following the regulated way of life along with knowing the higher pupose of living.
Just as Bharat Prabhu ji has emphasized .. the true knowledge is to Know about our connection with Krishna.
That we belong to Krishna and our very being is ment to serve Krishna is the real knowledge
and Vedas just speak about attaining Brahman and Bhakti is a step higher than that and it is not the end of it to know and follow the regulative principles.
By following regulative principles we may become disciplined but knowing Krishna and doing service to Krishna and doing service to vaishnavas we learn to become humble... and our main purpose is not MOKSHA or mukti ( SELFISH INTEREST) .. out main purpose of living is now known ---- that is to serve Krishna and all Vaishnavas ( SELFLESSLY)... The culimating point is becoming humbler than the blade of the grass and service to all as all are part and parcel of Krishna .. is the main idea or purpose of living
Yes at one level improving one's charcter is purpose of Vedic knowledge. But there are purposes higher than that also
sarvasya cāhaṁ hṛdi sanniviṣṭo mattaḥ smṛtir jñānam apohanaṁ ca vedaiś ca sarvair aham eva vedyo vedānta-kṛd veda-vid eva cāham
I am seated in everyone’s heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness. By all the Vedas, I am to be known. Indeed, I am the compiler of Vedānta, and I am the knower of the Vedas. (BG 15.15)
Knowing Sri Krsna, loving Sri Krsna, serving Krsna is the highest purpose
Thank you for your thoughtful point — I truly appreciate it. Yes, you are absolutely right. My intention was simply to highlight a concern about those who may read the scriptures, yet do not sincerely follow them in practice.
Cc. Madhya 19.146: “Among human beings, those who are followers of the Vedic principles are considered civilized. Among these, almost half simply give lip service while committing all kinds of sinful activities against these principles. Such people do not care for the regulative principles.”
When we speak of the reformation of character, it refers to the awakening of Krishna consciousness — not merely adherence to the relative or often misleading moral standards promoted by modern education systems.

I understand your intentions, but it may be misleading.
Question to you prabhu - Can a person have a noble character by vedic standards and be not spiritual or not believe in God ?
