Im listening to a lecture and Srila Prabhupada said there are different Puranas for those in different material modes of nature
How is it possible to determine which material mode of nature you are living in?
I thought that the material modes were basically working in each and every decision
I am not following the regulative principles very well, but am making progress...

ThePadma Purana classifies them in accordance with the three gunas or qualities as Sattva (Truth and Purity),Rajas (Dimness and Passion) and Tamas (Darkness and Ignorance).[4]

Puranas for each person and their condition like medicine.
SP in the same lecture says this works gradually means slowly.
In the end SP says about chanting of Hare Krsna that is the most effective powerful simple and quickest medicine to purify us.

This is true. But the particular mode acting depends on the present/previous desires of the person. If one has only sinful desires then he will be controlled by mode of ignorance and so on. Since in this age we have all kinds of desires all modes are acting on us.
How is it possible to determine which material mode of nature you are living in?
Lord Krishna gives the primary characteristics of persons in different modes. BG 14.6,7,8
Goodness - Happiness and knowledge
Passion - Unlimited desires and action to fulfill them
Ignorance - Madness, lethargy and sleep
