Prepare mala's

Haribol,

I like to know if there are certain rules for make mala's. Colors of flowers and combinations. I failed to find instructions in purana's and gita and detieworship (The orange 2 volume books for ISKCON standards.)

All depends on devotion to Krishna of course, but still I like to know if there are special rules or favours for flowers.

Thanks in advance Hare Krishna!

    Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

Yes, some flowers are considered to be in satttva guna, some in Rajo gun and some in Tamogun. I dont know particulars, but know this that Hibiscus, bel patra, aak ka phool are not offered to Krsna and His avatars/ expansions and Radha Rani.

Depending on the season the flowers are chosen.

Parijat and lotus flowers are considered auspicious and pleasing to Krsna. Mainly flowers with natural fragrance are favoured.

Tulsi leaves are not strung for Radharani or gopis, I think you may know this.

THis is as much as I know.

    • Hare Krishna!

Thank you so much for this information, does the formation also matter? Like colors and numbers of same flowers followed up by others like 3 same flowers and colors and 5 other flowers and colors?

Also upwards is propper and downwards for funeral/cremation am I right? Sideways has a meaning too? Can you use fruits like dates, figs raisins/sultana's, berries too?Or even nuts?

      Haribol!

        Hare KRsna Prabhuji,

        PAMHO.

I am sorry, I dont know about number of flowers in a garland bit. I will try and find out from the local temple and provide answers if I get more infromation.

Fruits and Dry fruits are normally strung on garland on festival days, not normally. I have seen grapes bunch on the head dress on normal days, not on gralands. This may be because it is difficult to make everyday, and maybe it will attract ants and cockroaches to these fruits and dry fruits.

        • Hare Krishna Mataji,

Thank you for your explenation. I just heard that Bhakti Charu Swami in Uljain long ago told in a lecture to his dicipels; "Please do not use leaves in mala's, only Tulasi if you use leaves"

Is that correct? But I heard also ;"If you lack of flowers, you can use 1 flower and for the rest leaves or even young grass.

          Hare Krishna!

            Hare Krsna PRabhuji,

            PAMHO.

I have seen a lot of leaves being used in flower garlands. I am not aware of HH BHakti Caru Maharaj lecture. This is a fact - when flowers are less, we fill up with leaves.
