So the essence is the same but the level of contamination or vulnerabilities are distinctly different. So the question is what makes us different from Krishna? & the answer seems to be our Quantity and qulity of our influence do to nature's /mya's laws & interference with our connection &/services to God, which is It's job gift & duty/service to God. For which God HimSelf has Impowered Her.
We are both part and parcel of Krsna & Energy of Krsna.
These two analogies are given to make us understand the similarity and difference of jiva with supreme lord.
If Krsna is considered an ocean then each Jiva is like a tiny drop. The properties of drop and ocean are similar like liquidity, saltiness etc but the quantities are different.
If Krsna is considered as all illuminating sun then jiva is like a ray emanating from sun. The properties are similar like light, heat but the capacity is different.
So similarity of Jiva & Krsna is that both are eternal, both are spiritual, both are conscious and both can experience bliss. Difference between jiva and Krsna is that jiva is subservient to Krsna in all circumstances( conditioned & uncontioned states) whereas Krsna is independent. Jiva is subjected to illusion. Krsna is never subjected to illusion. Even when Krsna descends to material world he is always free from illusion. Jiva can never become Krsna. Krsna is master of all energy, all opulence & all worlds. Jiva can never be master of energy or worlds independent of Krsna
All analogies have limitations hence analogies of sun and ocean also have limitations. Like Srila Prabhupada says
At that time the soul can see himself to be transcendental to material existence and always self-effulgent, never fragmented, although very minute in size.
In the state of pure consciousness, or Krishna consciousness, one can see himself as a minute particle nondifferent from the Supreme Lord. As stated in Bhagavad-gita, the jiva, or the individual soul, is eternally part and parcel of the Supreme Lord. Just as the sun's rays are minute particles of the brilliant constitution of the sun, so a living entity is a minute particle of the Supreme Spirit. The individual soul and the Supreme Lord are not separated as in material differentiation. The individual soul is a particle from the very beginning. One should not think that because the individual soul is a particle, it is fragmented from the whole spirit. Mayavada philosophy enunciates that the whole spirit exists, but a part of it, which is called the jiva, is entrapped by illusion. This philosophy, however, is unacceptable because spirit cannot be divided like a fragment of matter. That part, the jiva, is eternally a part. As long as theSupreme Spirit exists, His part and parcel also exists. As long as the sun exists, the molecules of the sun's rays also exist.
The jiva particle is estimated in the Vedic literature to be one ten-thousandth the size of the upper portion of a hair. It is therefore infinitesimal. The Supreme Spirit is infinite, but the living entity, or the individual soul, is infinitesimal, although it is not different in quality from the Supreme Spirit.
What does it mean when Krishna said he who remembers me in the hour of death he attains my nature?what is his nature that we attain?and how can we remember him should we remember his form?
“The living entities are energies, not the energetic. The energetic is Kṛṣṇa. This is very vividly described in the Bhagavad-gītā, the Viṣṇu Purāṇa and other Vedic literatures. CC Ad 7.117
Energetic being means an entity that possesses energy.
Krsna is supreme energetic personality who possesses all energies.
Jiva is one of the energies of Krsna. Jiva is not energetic. Jiva is marginal energy. This is true under all states & circumstances whether conditioned or liberated. This is the constitution of jiva.
So Jiva is energy being and Krsna is supreme energetic being

Hare Krsna
So are we small energetic beings and lord Krishna high energetic being?
Hare Krsna
One clarification - Energy here doesn't mean material forms of energy like electric energy measured in joules or kilowatthour.
jīva-tattva — śakti, kṛṣṇa-tattva — śaktimān

Hare Krsna Prabhuji,
PAMHO.
Jivas have been defined as both part and parcel of the supreme lord and marginal energy of the lord. The number of jivas are infinite.
