Hare Krishna dear devotees. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I was listening to a lecture yesterday and it was mentioned that one of Krishna's opulence is "Detachment". I think I understand Krishna's detachment in the sense that he has no desires, he is Atmarama (self-satisfied), and the attachment we see is actually a reciprocation he shares with the devotees that unconditionally love him.

But I'm not sure if this is a proper way of describing Krishna's detachment. Could anyone please further elaborate on this please.

Thanks.

  •  Hare Krishna,Devotees,

After passing stool we don't like to see, that is one example of detachment. Sri Krishna possess 6 opulence viz; knowledge (ज्ञान), dhan (धन), bal(बल), yash(यश), sondary(सोन्दर्य) and detachment(त्याग ) all with unlimited capacity. But all opulence has no importance to HIM; that is detachment.

  • Hare Krishna,

    PAMHO.

Krishna is king of all the universes and everything belongs to him. But still he is not attached to this and become the charioteer of Arjun, get bound by Mother Yashoda as lord Damodra and many other examples. Detachment as an opulence means he has everything but he leaves such opulence anytime for his loving devotees.

  • detachment is sitting in a cave. NON- attachment is being able to partake in the worlds pleasures, or work, or whatever have you without becoming attached. doing for the sake of doing. Enjoying knowing it is impermanent. The best way i can think to describe is the difference between a binge eater and a regular individual. One eats and loves the pleasure it gives, he then constantly craves to maintain that state of mind. Usually not seeing the truth in its impermanence. While a regular person may eat, enjoy what he has eaten and go about normal business. That is my opinion why austerities are in place. They break the attachment. But you will see, most, if they partake in the attachment again they are full throttle back into it. Detachment is an imbalance just as attachment is an imbalance. Non-attachment is balanced. As long as the full truth of impermanence pervades your entire being, it is then difficult to have any attachment whatsoever.

    Much love.

    Hare KRsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

Attachment is binding, detachment is liberating. If one is able to do all one's prescribed duties, and even reciprocate others attachment and endearments without getting entangled, isnt that a wonder? I personally dont know anyone like that.

Take for example a small 6 mths to 1 year old child. That child is playful, still innocent and always vying for attention. If such a child is around me, even without realising, I will start playing with the child and even take care of the child if the immediate care givers are not around. Then if the child gets hurt, it will hurt me also. I will not be able to think that the child is hurt because of some past karma. So, in no time, I have got attached to the child, completely unknown to me. Then what to speak of own blood and elders of the family. Therefore we are all attached and this attachment acts as a barrier to go back home, to Godhead.

Therefore, the lord's detachment is considered to be an opulence.

I am not sure I have made any sense or even that this is the right answer. It is a high level question - somebody may be able to explain it better with realisations.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

    Rashmi
