Lord Shiva

Lord Shiva does not get much attention within Iskcon movement, was wondering why?

The Baby Krishna is seen chanting Aum Namah shivaya when fighting the demons.

Sri Rama is seen seen praying to the Shivalinga in Rameshwaran

Sri Krishna asks the Pandavas to pray to the Shivalinga and Durga before the war.

Should one disregard Lord Shiva and just focus on Sri Krishna?

I am confused so asking. Do not wish to hurt the sentiments of Vaishnava

    Hare Krsna

Lord Shiva does not get much attention within Iskcon movement, was wondering why?

This is true Lord Shiva in the form of linga or murti is not given much attention. Because Lord Shiva is present in a different form. In some Iskcon temples where Sita Rama Lakshmana are present on Altar, Lord Shiva is worshipped as Hanuman, the most devoted servant of lord Rama.

There is another form in which Lord Shiva is worshipped throughout Iskcon - Advaita acarya. He is one of the Pancatattva. He considered as combined avatar of Lord Mahavishnu and Lord Sada Shiva. It was upon His prayer that Lord Gauranga descended to this earth. He is worshipped as Vishnu tattva.

Should one disregard Lord Shiva and just focus on Sri Krishna?

No one should disregard any living being in general. No one should disregard demigods. And certainly no one should disregard Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is among the greatest Vaishnavas and has to be respected as guru. He is the originator of Rudra sampradaya. But there is no need to worship Lord Shiva separately. Lord Shiva is worshiped along with Rama as Hanuman or along with Gaur Nitai as Advaita Acaraya. This is in alignment with desire of Lord Shiva Himself.

Lord Shiva is pleased when devotees worship Lord Krishna.

    rāma rāmeti rāmeti
    rame rāme manorame
    sahasra-nāmabhis tulyaṁ
    rāma-nāma varānane

“[Lord Śiva addressed his wife:] ‘O Varānanā, I chant the holy name of Rāma, Rāma, Rāma and thus enjoy this beautiful sound. This holy name of Rāmacandra is equal to one thousand holy names of Lord Viṣṇu.’

This is a verse from the Bṛhad-viṣṇu-sahasranāma-stotra in the Uttara-khaṇḍa of the Padma Purāṇa (72.335).

If you find there is anyone who is dis-regarding Lord Shiva please be cautious in associating with them as they may not have proper understanding.

    Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

Lord Shiva is considered to be the foremost vaishnava, as per Srimad Bhagawatam.

RE : Baby Krsna is seen chanting Om Namah Shivay - pls give reference. First time I read it here.

We are not dis regarding Shiva at all. We know Him to be unborn, beyond the material world.

Should one disregard Shiva and focus on Krsna - its not a question of disregarding prabhuji. Our attraction for Krsna is so great that even Narayan form of the  lord is not that attractive to us. A woman will have feelings only and only for her husband, even if he is not the greatest person on earth. Same way, our lord and master is only and only Krsna. I heard in a lecture recently that even prema, the highest stage of the 9 stages of devotion,  has various stages. The highest form of the prema stage is mahabhava - which is possible only for Krsna form, not for any other form of the lord. That is what we are trying to cultivate. Therefore, theres no time for any other form.

We have full respect for Lord Shiva and even observe Shivaratri (I do and I know other devotees who do). We pray to Shiva to grant us devotion to Krsna.

    Haribol,

    YOur servant,

    Radha Rasamayi DD

  • WHEN LORD CAME TO MORTAL WORLD , HE BEHAVED LIKE A MORTAL HUMAN BEING TO SHOW PEOPLE TO RESPECT ALL.

THERE WAS NO NEED FOR HIM TO BOW TO GURU AND TAKE EDUCATION FROM THEM. HE BOWS TO VASHISHTA , VISHWAMITRA, ( WHEN HE WAS LORD RAMA). WHEN HE INCARNATED AS KRISHNA HE BOWED DOWN TO  SANDIPANI MUNI AND TOOK HIM AS GURU TO LEARN FROM HIM. WAS THERE ANY NEED FOR BOWING TO THESE GURUS" AND LEARNING FROM THEM??

NOPE BUT HE JUST WANT TO TEACH OTHERS the value of respecting elders, gurus and demigods also .. THIS  SIMPLY SHOWS HIS Humbleness.

    Hare Krishna.

  • SB 3.8.12  The Lord lay down for a thousand cycles of four yugas in His internal potency, and by His external energy He appeared to be sleeping within the water. When the living entities were coming out for further development of their fruitive activities, actuated by the energy called kāla-śakti, He saw His transcendental body as bluish.
SB 3.8.13  The subtle subject matter of creation, on which the Lord’s attention was fixed, was agitated by the material mode of passion, and thus the subtle form of creation pierced through His abdomen.
SB 3.8.14  Piercing through, this sum total form of the fruitive activity of the living entities took the shape of the bud of a lotus flower generated from the Personality of Viṣṇu, and by His supreme will it illuminated everything, like the sun, and dried up the vast waters of devastation.
SB 3.8.15  Into that universal lotus flower Lord Viṣṇu personally entered as the Supersoul, and when it was thus impregnated with all the modes of material nature, the personality of Vedic wisdom, whom we call the self-born, was generated.
SB 3.8.16  Brahmā, born out of the lotus flower, could not see the world, although he was situated in the whorl. He therefore circumambulated all of space, and while moving his eyes in all directions he achieved four heads in terms of the four directions.
SB 3.12.4  In the beginning, Brahmā created four great sages named Sanaka, Sananda, Sanātana and Sanat-kumāra. All of them were unwilling to adopt materialistic activities because they were highly elevated due to their semen’s flowing upwards.
SB 3.12.5  Brahmā spoke to his sons after generating them. “My dear sons,” he said, “now generate progeny.” But due to their being attached to Vāsudeva, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, they aimed at liberation, and therefore they expressed their unwillingness.
SB 3.12.6  On the refusal of the sons to obey the order of their father, there was much anger generated in the mind of Brahmā, which he tried to control and not express.
SB 3.12.7  Although he tried to curb his anger, it came out from between his eyebrows, and a child mixed blue and red was immediately generated.
SB 3.12.8  After his birth he began to cry: O destiny maker, teacher of the universe, kindly designate my name and place.
SB 3.12.9  The all-powerful Brahmā, who was born from the lotus flower, pacified the boy with gentle words, accepting his request, and said: Do not cry. I shall certainly do as you desire.
SB 3.12.10  Thereafter Brahmā said: O chief of the demigods, you shall be called by the name Rudra by all people because you have so anxiously cried.
SB 3.12.11  My dear boy, I have already selected the following places for your residence: the heart, the senses, the air of life, the sky, the air, the fire, the water, the earth, the sun, the moon and austerity.
SB 3.12.12  Lord Brahmā said: My dear boy Rudra, you have eleven other names: Manyu, Manu, Mahinasa, Mahān, Śiva, Ṛtadhvaja, Ugraretā, Bhava, Kāla, Vāmadeva and Dhṛtavrata.
This proves that LORD VISHNU ( Who is nothing but Sri Krishna) is the originator from whom Lord Bramha took birth and From Bramha's anger from the frown Lord Shiva came out, when the 4 kumaras didn't do any creation as expected and took up celibacy Bramha  got anger , from his frowned forehead LOrd SHiva came forth.
One Who holds the lotus feet of Lord Sri Krishna , there is no need for separately praying for other demigods. As ALL IS HIM AND HE IS IN ALL. LORD IS TOO MUCH HUMBLE TO LOVE AND RESPECT HIS DEVOTEES AND CHILDREN AND GIVE THEM EQUAL STATUS AS HIM.  EVEN HIS DEVOTEES GET SWAROOPYA  MUKTI ( THAT IS THEY RESEMBLE LORD IN THIS TYPE  OF MUKTI) THIS SHOWS HOW MUCH HUMBLE HE IS.
When Lord Established Dwaraka it is stated in Srimad Bhagwatam-- as follows.---
SB 10.50.54  Lord Indra brought Śrī Kṛṣṇa the Sudharmā assembly hall, standing within which a mortal man is not subject to the laws of mortality. Indra also gave the pārijāta tree.
SB 10.50.55  Lord Varuṇa offered horses as swift as the mind, some of which were pure dark-blue, others white. The treasurer of the demigods, Kuvera, gave his eight mystic treasures, and the rulers of various planets each presented their own opulences.
SB 10.50.56  The Supreme Lord having come to the earth, O King, these demigods now offered Him whatever powers of control He had previously delegated to them for the exercise of their particular authority.
Note the last line... WHAT EVER POWERS OF CONTROL HE HAD PREVIOUSLY DELEGATED TO THEM FOR EXERCISE OF PARTICULAR AUTHORITY WAS ALL RETURNED WHEN LORD ESTABLISHED HIS KINGDOM IN DWARAKA.
AND AS FAR AS HOW SRI KRISHNA IS VISHNU.. IS SRI KRISHNA IS ORIGINATOR OR VISHNU IS THE ORIGINATOR.
    PLS > READ THIS>
This proves that Sri KRISHNA WAS ONLY THERE LYING ON THE BANYAN LEAF , SUCKING HIS TOE ,...AT FIRST EVEN BEFORE HUMAN RACE BEGAN EVEN BEFORE AND CREATION.
ONE WHO HOLDS THE LOTUS FEET OF SRI KRISHNA WHO IS THE CAUSE OF ALL CAUSES.  IT MEANS WE HAVE PRAYED TO REST OF ALL DEMIGOD"S ALSO. AS ALL ARE PART AND PARCEL OF LORD SRI KRISHNA.
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.
    SB 3.8.12
In the Viṣṇu Purāṇa, kāla-śakti is mentioned as avidyā. The symptom of the influence of the kāla-śakti is that one has to work in the material world…
