Life in India getting worse by the day !!

I work in the software industry based in Mumbai...

For the past few years, I have observed that life in India (and specifically in Mumbai) has been getting worse by the day.

I work in a field where many people have moved abroad to enhance their career. Now, while it is said that India is the best place to be born from a spiritual perspective, one often wonders about the constant struggle that exists here. I mean, here in Mumbai, one needs to worry about small things like the daily commute which has become a nightmare, constantly stuck in traffic jams which means it is a task to just move around from place A to B, the corruption, scams, looting by the government, cost of living and what all kinds of other issues...

As much as one thinks that India is much better than foreign countries, how does one remain unaffected by the deteriorating life in India and focus on spiritual things when one has to think about basic things like living, eating, etc here in India.

Isn't life abroad much better abroad and one can focus on spiritual things better since such smaller worries do not exist there?

  • Life in India is getting worsen day by day because people are refraining themselves from Krishna Consciousness. People are getting attracted by sexual content, looting, intoxication, gambling which are completely prohibited in Krishna Consciousness. Wherever you go you find things that will attract you into activities that are completely against Krishna consciousness. it is our culture which deteriorates us. Life in abroad seems to be more peaceful physically, not mentally. However foreign culture is more dangerous for us because today's nasty Indian culture  is a duplicate of foreign culture. So, bad things will happen all the time, in all places. What you should do is to devoid yourself from that activities which is full of Maya. All depends on you. Lord Krishna has shown us the right path. In what extent we will follow the advice of Krishna depends on us. Hare Krishna.

and after diabetics comes eye blindness. In this way life is doubled miserable.

This diabetic comes not only because of sugar but rice also. Because these days rice is not organic. All good substances are removed or do not have at all...

    what a condition :(

But we have to see what we can do not just to lament, don't we?!

    Your servant,

  • Hare Krishna,

It all depends on your own state of mind. We could be in a big swanky house with all kinds of luxuries, have everyone around us, everything that makes us feel secure, but still we do not feel secure, we feel lonely being in a crowded room and are unhappy about something.

There could be people living in a small house have limited means but still have each other support each other and have faith in the Lord. They would think themselves to be the happiest and thank lord for every moment in their life. But they would get attached to each other more and more and pray for even more attachments.

It is all inside of you, but both these situations could happen to anyone and we should not judge. every situation has its issues, Good will happen and a lot of bad will happen. There is no control over it. As we grow older we understand it more and more. The best is to involve yourself in Bhakti and surrender to HIM.   Then where you live how you live is just an outside condition and will slowly gradually begins to matter less and less. Its not like achieving this state would be easy. It takes a lot of conviction and faith. But this is what we should should strive for.

    Hari Bol.

i was actually thinking the same thing Siddhartha prabhuji. If we look at chinese history, they had a period where Legalism was in effect, everyone feared the government, but corruption was severely chopped off. Then they entered the Han Dynasty, which was taking the strengths of legalism and the strengths of confucianism and combining to create a very strong central government. But it wouldn't have worked if the Chinese people did not experience the Legalism Rule.

But what can we do when there is nothing but corruption from the top to bottom. Hahaha if we weren't so busy preaching and doing good things, I'm sure we devotees can create a political party and set India in the right direction by 1) stopping the mass production of beef and other meats, 2) setting settle stuff with Pakistan, 3) taking corruption and punish to the most severe level, 4) ruling and taking utmost care and precaution, and hopefully with the blessings of Lord Rama, establish something close to Rama Rajya, and of course 5) chanting and having harinama sankirtana every day and every night :)

I have read at few places in Bhagvatam where Jagat Guru Srila Prabhupada says taking birth and living in Bharat varsa is a blessing, we should take advantage of it. "

Now I am not sure if this Bharat varsa is only "INDIA" or the whole earth or few other countries as well who follow Sanatana dharma like "Nepal, India, Bangladesh"

Life in foreign countries like America, Europe is totally mechanical and one has to be strong and struggle hard to stand unto their spiritual expectation. However spiritual road seems more easier in countries like India where great great gurus and svayam Bhagvan has appeared many times. ( my personal experience, so please don't misunderstand that spirituality is only for Indians)

As Rahul prabhuji has correctly said " Western people come here to India to understand spirituality"

It's because of adopting western culture, India is degrading day by day.

I like what Bhaktin Maral Mataji has said " Suffering is everywhere" in some form or the other.

In developed cities like Mumbai (especially mumbai)

People have big cars but they travel by local train (No space for parking)

People have  money to buy and eat lots of sweets but alas! suffering with diabetes. (can't eat)

People travel 4 hours( 2 hours one way) on road just to meet for 2 minutes to say hello hi to friends/relatives

people have cutting board to cut vegetable but can't use it because some of them cut vegetable on trains. :)

People have time to "PARTY" but no time to take a good 6/7 hour sleep.

People pay so much money just to live in no bedroom apartment :)

Pollution and weather makes people live in AC and alas! can't enjoy the beach walk.

But the irony is Mumbaikars love it. :)

Jai Ho! and heads off to ISKCON devotees in Mumbai who are living there in such a hell to uplift people there.

      jai shree Krishna

  • Just to add to the ever growing problems in the city, we now have the indefinite traders strike in Mumbai bcoz of LBT....

I went to one of the only open supermarket here and saw an overcrowded place with no place to even stand and had people shouting, fighting just to get in the queue for payment...

How can one not get frustrated in such kind of environment ??

  • Thanks a lot for your reply...

But I would not completely agree on few points...

You say cost of living is lower in India than abroad...but I feel that is completely changing and one can see the cost of living going up like anything specially during the past 5-6 years...

Also one feels that Maya is not just strong abroad, as India is not very far from that...so you have mall culture being coming here, high spending, people boasting of big things even here...so the difference between India and abroad in terms of such things is kind of diminishing day by day...

Thus one feels like while the bad things that are there abroad are slowly creeping here as well....but at least one can get a good quality life abroad....

Hare Krishna dear Devotees, please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
We think life is better in those places where we are not there. But Krishna says different thing.

He says that up from Brahmaloka down to patalaloka this world is full of miseries. No matter India or not India there is suffering everywhere but with different shapes.

In many countries, as above was told, material allurements are so prevalent that simple person if goes will surely fall down or at least to some extent.

In some places because of lack of spiritual knowledge people suffer just trying to get some material enjoyment...

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh this page is not enough for explaining of sufferings.

Knowing it is be as such we can try to get out of from here.

    So we need:

---patience (tolerating sufferings which we are not able to avoid)

---determination (to chant attentively and please Krishna)

--- wait with humility for the mercy.

When mercy comes we will taste the sweetness of the Holy Names and even hell will become Goloka Vrindavan. And we will suffer only for those who do not have this taste.

    ----

It is true we have to try to live simple in villages. But sometimes for the sake of preaching we have to adjust with the life in big cities like Mumbai, Delhi...hoping Krishna will protect us.
