Krsna's answer to gopis' question

Hare Krishna to all the devotees

All glories to srila Prabhupada

One class simply receives, another class reciprocates favorably, even if the lover is very contrary, and the third class neither acts contrary nor answers favorably in dealings of love. So out of these three classes, which do You prefer, or which do You call honest?”

In answer, Kṛṣṇa said, “My dear friends, persons who simply reciprocate the loving dealings of the other party are just like merchants. They give in loving affairs as much as they get from the other party. Practically there is no question of love. It is simply self-interested or self-centered business dealing. Even those without a tinge of loving affairs are better than these merchants. Better than the first class is the second class of men, who love in spite of the opposite party’s contrariness. Such sincere love can be seen when the father and mother love their children in spite of their children’s neglect. The third class neither reciprocate nor neglect. They can be further divided into two classes. One comprises the self-satisfied, who do not require anyone’s love. They are called ātmārāma, which means they are absorbed in the thought of the Supreme Personality of Godhead and so do not care whether one loves them or not. But another class comprises ungrateful men. They are called callous. The men in this group revolt against superior persons. For instance, a son, in spite of receiving all kinds of things from loving parents, may be callous and not reciprocate. Those in this class are generally known as guru-druha, which means they receive favors from the parents or the spiritual master and yet neglect them.”

in this krsna has explained the 3 types. But first type was those who simply received, and the second class was those who reciprocated . But krsna starts from thise who reciprocates and then tells about second class. So can anyone give some light on this matter as why first class is also referred to as those who reciprocates even when gopis' says that those "who simply receive".

Also Krishna aslo says further that he left gopis' as to intensify their love for krsna but krsna also left radharani. Isn't radharani's love already most intense and ever increasing, so why does krsna leaves radharani?

why first class is also referred to as those who reciprocates even when gopis' says that those "who simply receive".

Here is the shloka said by Gopis

    śrī-gopya ūcuḥ
    bhajato ’nubhajanty eka
    eka etad-viparyayam
    nobhayāṁś ca bhajanty eka
    etan no brūhi sādhu bhoḥ

The gopīs said: Some people 1.reciprocate the affection only of those who are affectionate toward them, while others 2. show affection even to those who are indifferent or inimical. And yet others 3. will not show affection toward anyone. Dear Kṛṣṇa, please properly explain this matter to us. (SB 10.32.16)

  • Hare Krishna,

Three kinds of lovers are described by Lord in SB

    1. Those who love only when loved in return :-  I love you because you love me.  Selfish interest love or mutual benefit scheme.  looks like some business dealing. isn't it rather than love.  This can become deviated at any point to become vikruth ( deformed).. okay if you don't love me back then I will kill you or put acid on your face so that you don't become anyone else's property. Or I wil love you only when you love me back. If you don't love me I will turn a vilian.

This type of love is coming with a condition. You love me then only I will love you. It is conditional and more like business transaction.

2.Those who love even when the other is contrary or unloving : This type of love is praiseworthy as per Krishna. The parents give such selfless love to their children.  They keep loving the child even when the child is treating them bad and doesn't reciprocate the love offered. This is pure form of love.  Like the gopi's love for Krishna they didn't care if they are put in hell or blamed by the society they are just happy to see Krishna safe and happy whereever Lord is be it with them or away from them in Dwaraka. They simply gave love and didn't expect anything in return.

3.Those who neither reciprocate nor oppose:  The third type of lover doesnt reciprocate or neither oppose because they are self satisfied they are self absorbed like Lord Sri Krishna.

Lord sometimes doesn't reciprocate or respond quickly and keeps away from the gopi's He remains indifferent to the devotees.

The gopis' complained YOU  are so heartless YOU are so indifferent. You don't reciprocate to our love. But Lord remained silent and away to the love shown by the gopis' and simply left them. This is the greatest gift that Lord gives to His loving devotees. laughinglaughinglaughing

Okay I came across a best line in one of the lectures-- When devotees love Lord itseems he may or may not reciprociate

But if Lord loves a devotee he will give them greatest gift.

And what is the greatest gift??  laughingViraha vedhana

Bhagwan humse prem karenge toh humko Viraah pradhaan karenge to intensify the love.

Lord's Queen's all loved Lord and he very nicely reciprocated them.

Lord loved gopis' so he awarded them with Viraha  ( wah ! really a great gift)

It made me cry now. frown

sometimes I do expect that HE should also show some reciprocation.

Shrimati Radharani is none other than Krishna HIMSELF in female form.  When Lord wanted to see his reflection in the mirror he saw HIS own face and got attracted to it. At that time He assumed a form of Shrimati Radharani and started to admire His own beauty thru HER heart.

That simply put Lord never felt Vrindavan because His own identity Shree Radha was existing in Vrindavan.

It is the gopis' who required to intensify their longing and love selflessly was taught to them by Shrimati Radharani.
Shrimati Radharani is guru for the gopis' who taught the gopis how to love selflessly.

    Hare Krishna
