Karmic Reaction

From the Mahabharata we get the understanding that "Everything is happening as a result of Karmic reaction which, is taking place by the arrangement of the mode of material nature." "What has to happen will happen and that is why people this understanding were fearless." So if a person is victimized it is to be understood that that was his karmic reaction i.e he had victimized someone some times/life back.

When a person (for the purpose of our discussion this person is Mr. X ) according to the karmic reaction does not deserves to be victimized and yet he is victimized by Mr. Y, so in future as per the vedic principle of karmic reaction Mr. X will settle his score with Mr.Y.

Q. 1) Is Mr. X undeservingly victimized in the first place? If so, why? rather
Q. 2) How is Mr. X being victimized to be understood? In regards to the above principle.

Please somebody help me understand this better.

Dear devotee Hare Krsna.    Please carefully study Bhagavad Gita  As It Is by AC Bhaktivedanta Swami.   There you wiil get very clear answerto this sometimes perplexing question.

Work done as a sacrifice for Visñu has to be performed; otherwise work causes bondage in this material world. Therefore, O son of Kunti, perform your prescribed duties for His satisfaction, and in that way you will always remain free from bondage.    BG  3.9

Krsna explains karma yoga to Arjuna.   By doing all your work for the stisfaction of Krsna, Visnu you become transendentally situated above the modes of nature and not subjected to the actions and reactions of the material world.

Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer or give away, and whatever austerities you perform—do that, O son of Kunté, as an offering to Me. BG  9.27

Under the guidance of the guru and the shastra one learns the art of doing everything for Krsna.   And he feels very peaceful and happy.    Even if the devotee is put into some difficult situation,   because of  his advanced spiritual realisation he is not disturbed.  He simply continues to go on in his service to Krsna with determinatuon.

Always chanting My glories, endeavoring with great determination, bowing down before Me, these great souls perpetually worship Me with devotion.  BG   9.14

OOps lost half of this...........  Try again

The devotee does not work subject to karma as you describe.   He comes under the protection of Krsna's devine potency.   A devotee sees every thing as  arangement of Krsna and it must be for my purification.  Everything is seen in that positive way.

O son of Prthä, those who are not deluded, the great souls, are under the protection of the divine nature. They are fully engaged in devotional service because they know Me as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, original and inexhaustible.  BG  9.13

Everyone else who is not working for Krsna is unber the control of maha maya and are bound by every action.  it is not possible to get free without the mercy of the Suprme Lord.   Hare Krsna

      • Hare Krishna

Thank you very much for replying. I do come to understand the point that you are putting forward that "the devotees need not worry about the karmic reaction since all their activities are meant to pleasing Lord Krishna. However, if more is presented on how the vedic principle of karmic reaction takes place that would really help me overcome this topic.

        Thank you

        Hare Krishna

Hare Krsna Mitlesh prabhu,   The laws of karma are like the laws of physics.  For every action there will be an equal and oposite reaction,   ie   What goes in must come out.   This law of nature is being directed by the Supersoul.   The Paramatma feature of the Supreme Lord.  We may have no memory of why or how we are getting some particular result in this life, but we accept on the authority of the veda that everything is under the control of the Devatas and the Supreme. It is beyond our senses and experimentation.     The vedas deal mainly with this subject of elevation to higher planets through karma kanda,  By pious activities and sacrifices you will go to heaven and enjoy there.    There are many examples of those who are pious and those who are sinful and getting their results in some one two or more lives in the future.    Persons who are very much intrested in bodily pleasure are very attracted to such descriptions. But Krsna says they are less intelligent.     After enjoyment on the planets of the devatas again they must return here.   It is not eternal life there and one must return after his pious credts run out.    That is because he still remains a karmi,   a fruitive worker who is not devoted to The Supreme Lord.     These actions and reactions are mentioned in many places in the vedas for different classes of people.     But how to get free from this chain of reactions which is tightly binding us to this samsara,  repeated birth and death.  And live an eternal life of bliss and knowledge.   That is our real business.  Hare Krsna.
          • Hare Krishna prabhuji. When for every action there will be an equal and oposite reaction. Does that mean that innocent people may be victimized at some point in time. So that seems to be a reason to be a bit fearful (focusing on the action part of the law of physics/karma) But the understanding that we get from Mahabharat is "Everything is happening as a result of Karmic reaction which, is taking place by the arrangement of the mode of material nature." "What has to happen will happen and that is why people with this understanding were fearless."

Please explain how does both of this fit in the bigger picture.

Hare Krsna ,  yes , it is said ignornce is no excuse.   If you break the law and in court before the judge you plead that you did not know it was an ileagal activity you will not be excused. you will still have to pay some fine.    That is the law and all civilised men have to learn what is the laws.     So if you know and you follow the laws of the state then you have no fear of punishment by the state.    But when a criminal sees the police and is brought to justice he is very fearful.    This example is given to help us understand.   The laws of God are infallible and one who follows those laws of God never feels  any fear.   From within his heart Krsna awards hin fearlessness.   And if he is put into a difficult situation he thinks,  This must be due to my previous sinful activities.  I must tollerate it and see it is good for my purification.    He s not so disturbed and goes on with his chanting of Hare Krsna.
