but to eat food which is not offered to Krishna is already a harm to our spiritual life, isn't it Prabhuji?!
That food which is not offered is only sin. So why to risk?!
There are so many nice things to eat.
Usually mushrooms are forest cleaners. With their body they clean the forest observing all dirts. They also breath the O2 and produce C2O as like we - human beings and animals do.
Because of that it is not clean food but food in the mode of ignorance. WHat to speak of how these days they are grown in factories...

Dear Mataji:
Yes, of course to eat unoffered bhoja is harmful to spiritual life. Srila Prabhupada did state, however, that it is permissible to offer/consume mushrooms. If one is still suspicious of mushrooms, they can avoid them.
But they are technically acceptable within ISKCON since His Divine Grace & Founder-Acarya A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada has deemed it acceptable.
MUSHROOMS - In traditional ayurvedic cooking, mushrooms are not highly regarded, because they usually grow on decaying matter. For this reason they are categorized as a tamasic food. They would also be avoided in a strict mold-free or anti-Candida diet because they are a fungus.--- http://ayurvedaram.com/facts_about_some_food.html
I dont know Srila Prabhupad's specific reason for banning Musroom. But generally Musroms and garlic (along with meat) is prohibited for spiritual people as they are rajasic in nature Spiritual people who develop satvic qualities should avoid any thing rajasic that kindles desire and thamasci that dulls the intellect. Some of the highly nutritive food like onion garlic musrooms are also rajasic and highly aphrodisiacs naturally due to the very high nutritional value, and hence could distrub and insite the mind - and that is no good for the spiritual development.
Thanks for the correction.. Will need to check on correctness of statements quoted in future. Thanks to the loving devotees of Krishna, who are always vigilant.

Hare Krsna . dear devotees.
AS far as I have heard only Hong Kong temple is serving the mushrooms now.
So if you want to taste these mushrooms offered to Gaur Nitai you will have to go there.
Srila Prabhpada has given the Chinese some concession.
The Chinese use a lot of mushrooms in medicines also.
cordacepts are very famous as a friendly mold.
We have in our bodies many types of molds that are very favorable to good health.
Some are good and some are bad. And some are poison.
But it is not that tanasic foods that are vegetarian cannot be offered.
Soya sauce for example and this mature smelly cheeses that are months old.
And yeasted breads pizzas and also there is olives loaded with salt to stop them rotting.
And pickles made with lemons and mangoes even many years old.
and what about jams?
Very tasty tamasic foods.
We should offer all with real devotion and Krsna says ' I will accept it'.
Dear Prabhu:
Hare Krishna and Obeisances!
Mushrooms are actually edible for devotees. Here is a letter from Srila Prabhupada stating that it is acceptable.

Even the veges grow on rotting materials. Its the process of recycling of material nature.
Mushrooms are Tamasic in nature, just like onion and garlic and therefore must be avoided.
Mushrooms are Fungus or mold, which is known to cause cancer.
I know mold causes cancer, but arguable if mushrooms do cause cancer even though in the same family.
Best to avoid them.
Jai Shri Krishna..
Some excerpts from various sites discussing mushrooms..
