Hare Krsna dear devotees
Please forgive me if my question sounds offensive to you.
Does Lord Visnu fast on Ekadasi? In His childhood pastimes Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu ate the offerings prepared by the brahmana guest for Lord Visnu on ekadasi, not once but thrice making him cry :)
However, later when acting as a devotee He strictly observed the fast and also recommended others to do so.
My question is that in other incarnations does He require to fast?

Hare Krsna Prabhu,
PAMHO.
Fasting is for us, not for the lord fasting in hindi/ sanskrit - word is upawas - means staying near (the Lord). Its our requirement to fast, not His.
Please feel free to offer grains as well as non grains to lord on ekadasi. He can have.
Haribol,
Your servant,

Thank you Mataji

Fasting or not fasting are based on the material plane.
How can such things affect the Lord?
Fast on Ekadasi by devotee is on material plane?
it can be both on material and spritual plane for a devotee.
But the question was is Lord vishnu affected for his own sake.was it? was it not?
Hare Krsna
The question itself may be incorrect. Was the brahmana guest making the offfering to Lord Visnu on Ekadasi or he simply asked Shri Jagganatha Mishra to supply the ingredients so that he could make an offering to Lord Visnu. Nimai ate the offerings when the brahmana was meditating on Lord Visnu to accept the offerings.
I'm slightly busy today so I typed the question in a jiffy. I will get back to this after I get some what free!
