Is Having a guru necessary for spiritual advancement?

Hare Krishna Devotees

Questions follows...

Is Having a guru necessary for spiritual advancement?

As per our spiritual master Srila Prabhupada, if we chant 16 rounds and follow 4 regulative principles, is this not enough to lead us to next level of spiritual path?.

Are we expected to stay away from luxurious living style (off course not breaking the 4 principles) if we want to  be always Krishna conscious?

If somebody lives in an UN-KC environment, and if we kind of get involved in having party's/watching movies etc for self enjoyment with family, is this going to lead us to few steps back in KC?

Will appreciate your answers.

jai shree Krishna.

read this book. it depicts how important it is to have a Satguru (True Guru) for attaining God. Without a Satguru, True Spiritual Knowledge cannot be attained. and you will find answers to all the questions given below.

    2. Who is the husband of Mother Sheranwali (Durga/Ashtangi)?

    3. Which God has selfish interest in our birth and death?

    4. From where have we all souls come?

    5. What is the identity of a Complete Saint?

    6. Is salvation possible by going in refuge of any Guru?

    7. Are Brahma, Vishnu and Shiv free from the 84 lac births of various life forms?

    8. According to Gita and Purans, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiv are not immortal, Why?

    9. There is only one Satguru (True Saint) in the whole world; Who appoints him?

    10. Whose bhakti (devotion) do Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh do?

    11. (According to Gita ji) - Complete salvation is not possible by worship of Gods, Goddesses, Hanuman, Mother Masani and Pitras (deceased ancestors), Why?

    12. (According to Gita ji) - It is not beneficial to go to places of pilgrimage, to keep fasts, carry out shradhs etc, Why?

    13. (According to Gita ji) - No happiness or salvation can be attained by arbitrary naams/mantras like Ram, Hare Krishna, Hari Om etc, Why?

  • Hare Krishna !! my humble pranAms to krishna and krishna-sevaks !!

.1) A spiritual guru is needed to help us advance in devotion to God and self-realization. Shri Krishna himself set an example by accepting the tutelage under Sage SAndIpanI. Even if you may not have a guru now, keep the trust in Krishna and soon He'll bring a guru to you. However, truly speaking a Guru may come in any form, what is important is what we learn. Dattatreya maharshi (an incarnation of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva combined) learnt from multiple gurus which included insects, animals, birds and various classes of human beings. Such is the intent of a true student to look for learning including this material world.

.2) A luxurious lifestyle in this modern world can entangle us in materiality (mahamAyA) and make us forget Krishna. Unless we are advanced in Bhakthi, Kali pulls us down. That includes all modern parties and movies !!

    In service to please Krishna,

    Suresh

  • Hare Krishna mataji,

There is a beautiful doha by kabir

‘Guru Govind dou khade, kake lagu pay

Balihari guru aapne Govind deeyo dikhay’

    its a question...

that if our guru and beloved lord both are standing in front of us

then to whom do we offer Dandavat first

and answer is -- to Guru..

coz it was by the Guru's grace only that we could reach Govinda.

and that is the reason why Guru comes before God.

    hare krishna ...!!

Hare Krishna dear Devotees, please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Yes, Ashish Sharma Prabhu was very true without Guru we can not progress.

Even Lord Chaitania accepted a Guru. By doing so He showed us an example.

By serving to Guru we cultivate qualities like humility, tolerance, respect to others and not waiting for respect to ourselves. And these qualities are only the key for receiving knowledge.

One may study in Harvard, Buckingham ... if one does not have good qualities then what is the use of that knowledge?

    ----------------------------------

In the beginning as Ashish Prabhuji told we have to eat only Krishna Prasadam and chant attentively our minimum 16 rounds. And Krishna will help us in other things. He will guide us and protect us and purify our heart.

Also we have at least attend Sunday Programs and associate with Devotees, honor Prasadam, sing in the Kritan, attentively hear the lecture.

    Your servant,

    • hare Krishna Bhaktin Mataji and Ashish prabhuji

      Thank you for your encouragement.

  • mataji you said:

In Krishna Consciousness our focus is not at all self satisfaction or sense gratification but Krishna's satisfaction only. Whatever situation we are in , we can follow KC.We need not to leave our luxurious life but use that luxuries for Krishna's seva. Attending parties/watching TV/movies/songs etc are all nothing but sense gratification.Because these things are not serving Krishna in any way.

Krishna Consciousness doesn't means that we don't have to enjoy .But we enjoys what krishna enjoys first. Whatever krishna is served we eat that food as prasadam. Whatever Krsna enjoys listening we do kirtanam and enjoys that . We all are servants of Krishna and when Krishna becomes satisfied or pleased ,we becomes satisfied ourselves.

Acharyas and great devotees has said that devotees only do those things which are meant for Krishna seva, those things which cannot serve Krishna are useless for pure devotees.

    your servant

    Ashish Sharma
