I remember reading a story where a Guru was asking a man to come to the Temple and become a devotee. The man said he wanted to but he has a wife and a job. He asked the guru to come back in 10 years. The guru came back in 10 years and the man said I can't go now, I have young daughters to raise, come back in 5 years. The guru came back in 5 years and found the man had died and came back as a dog. The guru asked the dog to come with him and the dog said I can't go yet, I must protect the house and my family, he said come back in 3 years. The guru came back in 3 years and found the dog had died and came back as a snake. One of the daughters came out and the guru said go in the basement and bring me the snake. He won't bite you. Break his back and bring him to me.

I can't remember where I read this and need to find the source if anyone can help, I would be very appreciative.
