Hi

Me again :)

I have just finished reading A Higher Taste and have enjoyed many a prasadam meal at Govinda's now on the Sunday Feast.

I have started cooking at home and now changed my diet to a complete Vegetarian one (eggs was the last to go) however not so easy at work:

I work a sea for 1 month at a time. Our food is served in a Galley buffet and whilst I can eat Vegetarian food, sometimes I have to eat food with garlic and onions cooked in it. Avoiding meat is easy.

Firstly, seeing how the food wasn't offered to Krishna, is it ok to eat Garlic and Onions?

Secondly, as I can't cook the food myself, all I can really do is just eat vegetarian. Does anybody have any further advice on what I can do?

I appreciate your advice in advance.

Hare Krishna!

    Hare krsna,

Make it a priority to see krsna in anything and everything. the rest are all means to the end. Krsna should be your ONLY goal. eating meat or not, eating onion or not, drinking alchohol or not... will not be sufficient if you dont understand WHY you are doing it..

Once the goal is clear, everything will fall in place... like when you are solving a puzzle where you are trying to see which piece fits where, you start by visualising the end picture and fit the puzzles accordingly... similarly, when krsna is your goal, you will (through krsna's guidance) fit the devotional practices accordingly to progress through your spiritual journey.

You might feel that you are committing sins by not following few things here and there... dont worry or feel bad about it.. as long as you try to resolve it when krsna makes the arrangement for you..

    krsna says..

Even if one commits the most abominable actions, if he is engaged in devotional service, he is to be considered saintly because he is properly situated.

    Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

Whatever you eat, without onion garlic veg food or fruits, please offer to the lord and have. I understand you may not have cooked, but you offer from your plate itself and then have. If the food contains onion garlic, dont offer to Krsna. We are offering what He likes, not what we have to eat, whether willingly or unwillingly.

Keep the desire in your heart that you want to eat only KRsna prasadam. Gradually, Krsna will make arrangements that you will be able to comply. The hindrances we face in our devotional life are simply to make us more resolute in our purpose to perfect our life and make our very life an offering to the lord.

All the while, continue to chant and follow 4 regulative principles.

    Haribol,

    Best of luck to you,

    YOur servant,

    Radha Rasamayi DD

    • Even when one has to eat foods that are of questionably passionate or pf ignorant orragins.
      i.e. un-offerable to Krishna.
I find it wise to bring it to the attention [of Vishnu]* for tje binnafit of Hi's protections.
And don't think that eating any life forms is' karma Free, it is not karma free, they, the Vedgie's are immonating frequencies far diffrent than our own, hence introducing those energies are-to expose our's to (big chang). Not a problem if one isNot traying to maintain ("equomnimnaty") for the sake of Spiritual evolution in the direvt association of the God heads. So no killing of any other lining intaty is without "sin of i.e. sinfull reactions. Chanting-
Sri Vishnu, Sri Vishnu, Sri Vishnu,
3 times while elavating the plate "above my head, is my method I resort to in such a situation! In other words, when ever consuming (anything) Om Sri Vishnu 3X-s is appropriate/called for. Good luck & stay safe
    • Thank you kindly for your response.

And what of eating food that is not sanctified or offered to Krishna? I have no choice as I am unable to cook my own meals whilst working at sea.
