Hare Krishna dear devotees.
There are situations when our house will be bombarded with ants/cockraoches/mosquitoes/bugs/honey bees etc.
And while cleaning we kill them so many times committing sins .
In fact few days back , I end up having bunch of mosquitoes inside my house in the evening when unfortunately I left the windows open , in the fear of being attacked by various diseases like dengue/malaria, I sprayed the "HIT"(mosquito) killer all over. And in the morning when I saw bunch of mosquitoes lying on the floor, some of them still fluttering a little bit.I really felt bad and felt more bad realizing that I committed sin for myself and my family's convenience.
WHAT TO DO IN SUCH SCENARIO'S?
If we don't regularly do pesticide then our kitchen will be a hub for ants and cockroaches roaming all around food. WHAT TO DO IN SUCH CONDITIONS?
Please guide.

We have to avoid as much as possible. I have seen some devotees, while walking they are extremely careful not to step on insects and ants, but sometimes it becomes impossible. In that case, we should pray for forgiveness from Krsna for all the sinful activities that we might have done during the day and should pray for those souls who left their bodies due to us.

In earlier yugas , kings use to go for hunting out in the jungle for practice.
How was/is that not considered a sin?.

Kings did not kill animals for fun or for enjoyment in the vedic era, the culture changed gradually and it became a symbol of heroism and fun in due course of time. The kings killed animals to protect the sages from the animals and dangerous man eating beings and to keep their population under control but now this is not the case, they kill either to sell their body parts or for show case at home.That gives heavy sinful reactions.

Once in his last days on this Earth planet Srila Prabhupada was very weak. Devotees used to do to him massage every evening. So it happened that there were many mosquitoes in the room because of that Prabhupada was lying under the mosquito net and Devotee who was massaging his was also under that. Then Srila Prabhupada heard the sound of one mosquito and told that inside the net one. "please, do something and take it out, but do not kill"...
In this way his heart was so soft even to such like living entities.
It says that if we kill animals or insects we stop them from evolution process and they have again take body of an ant or mosquito. But if they die with natural death then after death they will take higher birth.

First rule, of course everyone knows it that cleanliness. Srila Prabhupada even though was in the old body used everyday to wash the floor of his room.
And when the room is clean then we can use special chalks which scare ants and other insects. I do so. other wise ants ........very very very problematic. Especially in India- climate is very wet.
In Mayapur also ocean of mosquitoes - very big ones. Because of that in every window and door way Devotees make nets.
Or if so happened that some of them entered into the room then we usually turn on the fan and they can not fly here and there.
But it is true it is not possible to sleep well if there are mosquitoes. You can try also special incenses made of cow dung.
For cockroaches again first we fully clean all the rooms and put some chalks so that they do not enter further more. And after some month we can refresh.

We should ideally not kill mosquitoes but we can use mosquito repellant which does not kill mosquitoes but repels them away. I asked this question once to a devotee and he said the same. If we kill by mistake then we should ask for forgiveness and pray for the soul but we should try to make sure that we do not kill them even by mistake.
Ants are no harm to human beings as far as I know so we don't need to kill them generally. If they are eating the bhoga meant for offering to Lordships then we can use some kind of protection to protect the bhoga or even kill them. Cockroaches can be prevented by using napthalene balls and we again don't need to kill them. Cleanliness is a must for becoming Krsna conscious as it brings everything in mode of goodness . So we should keep everything clean so that such insects don't come to our homes. We don't need to kill honey bees as they don't harm us generally.

We should try to protect bhoga from these insects and keep the kitchen clean all the time. They come when things are not clean. If still the are coming then we can use repellants to protect Krsna's bhoga from them. If this our consciousness, we won't incur sin. If we want to kill,becuz we want to show our ego on them, we will get heavy sinful reactions.
