All glories to Srila Prabhupada,
Recently I came across a person called Jay Lakhani who was propagating highly atheistic version of Sanatana Dharma, especially the kind of propagated by impersonalists. I would say his philosophies are even more leaning towards atheism than present day mainstream impersonalists. He was bravely using Nasadiya yukta to claim God came in to existence after cosmic manifestation which happened at big bang. Not just that, he mentioned Bhagavata Kathas is nothing more than a medium to connect with eachother and discuss things of vedas and we should not be attached to the God of the purana. He even insulted Lord Vishnu.
The question I wanted to ask is in reference to the above experience. How is it possible that after reading vedas, people doubt the authenticity of puranas, when, even the Vedas boldly declare puranas and itihasas as the fifth Veda ? Not just that, for the satisfaction of atheists, there are archeological evidences of the incidents mentioned in puranas as well.
Is it because of the limitation of the intelligence people of the Kaliyuga to accept the Supreme Person Sri Krsna, that they go to impersonalism and claim the God came after creation. This seems foolishness, and, also an approach to look at dharma from the eyes of modern science, rather, we should look at science from the eyes of dharma, then we can see the truth because science is prone to human error, and, words of god can never be prone to human error.

It is possible due to envy. This is material world. Almost every living entity in this material world has left shelter of Supreme Personality of Godhead due to envy and is suffering trying to enjoy the material energy. The material energy is designed to function in a way that the more we try to enjoy, the more we suffer. The more the demoniac people suffer, the more envious they become of the Supreme personality of Godhead. It is the way the world works. Just because someone reads something in some Purana, the envy of the heart doesn't go away. In fact the more demoniac people read , the more they blaspheme the Supreme Lord & scriptures.
Ravana, Hiranyakshipu were well versed in vedic scriptures, but due to their envy they could not accept Krsna as Supreme Personality of Godhead. Duryodhana saw gigantic form of the lord but, he became more delusional by seeing it.
He was bravely using ....
There is no bravery in displaying their envy towards Krsna
there are archeological evidences of the incidents mentioned in puranas as well.
No amount of evidence, debate, scriptures can remove envy of heart. It is only by mercy/ compasison of Lord Sri Chaitanya & Lors Sri Nityananda flowing through a devotee can a person surrender.

No this was there in other yugas also.
