Hare Krishna, I have a question I am hoping someone can provide some more clarification. I heard when the Gita was spoken to Arjuna by Krishna it took about 45 -48 minutes on the battlefield. Does anyone have any references to this statement, I repeated what I heard from a lecture and I am convince but someone asked for the reference to this statement, please help. Thank you in advance . Hare Krishna

Hare Krishna prabhu,
What I know is during the battle field when armies were standing most eager to fight. ready when the battle roars were going on and the shankh and trumpets and bells and cries of elephants from either sides all ready set go. At that time Arjuna sat down in the chariot all lost as if he lose all vigor and complained should we start this war? At that juncture Lord Sri Krishna gives Arjuna a boost and tells this Gita.
If you read all the slokas of BG normally faster way you can complete without pausing in between in 2 to 2 and half hours. But do you think this much time Lord explained to Arjuna. Krishna is Supereme Personality of Godhead. If He wants to pass transfer the knowledge for Lord it takes just seconds * Telepathic* communication.
Now You must understand that BG which is spoken is different ( literally spoken) when compared to Bhagwad gita which is told by Sanjaya to Dhritarashtra as seen in mental vision
and there is ONE more BG that is written By Srila Vyasdev ji as explained to him by Lord Ganesha.
There are three versions of the same BG.
Now to speculate how much time Lord Krishna took to tell the slokas is utter foolishness. as Lord is Bhagwaan Himself. If he simply put his glance on Arjuna all knowledge is transfered. It would be just seconds only. But the same knowledge which is seen by Sanjaya and explained to Dhritarashtra in word to word format same thing but in expanded version.
And what Ganesha told to Vyas ji and Vyas ji gave in series of slokas .. the purport is the same but the wordings and slokas formatting ...is made by Vyas maharaj.
Now this BG which we have now is what Vyas ji wrote what he heard as it is from Lord Ganesha. As far as I know.. Lord Sri Krishna spoke the same but it would not be so long or this was like a lightening cable like passing information on the battle field.
Hare Krishna.
There are people that recite the 700 verses in about an hour, but I never heard or read anywhere that Prabhupada said how long it took to be spoken originally... but I agree with Bharat - why?
If I were there it would have taken much longer - I would have interrupted with tons of questions ha ha.

I am sorry, I do not have a reference. But I wonder why anyone would want the duration of Bhagavad Gita rather than the content.

In preaching we come across all kind of people so we try to answer as best we could but it better to ask senior devotees for advice to give the most accurate information so when people read the content there is no doubt. Thank you for your input
