Please can any one explain me in detail. Why the vigraha of giri raj is kept in mayapur deity?
Why is he so famous??

Giriraj Govardhan is glorified by gopis themselves in SB as haridasavarya - meaning he is the best of the servants of krishna. They say this because he knows the heart of krishna and serves krishna by assisting Krishna in his wonderful pastimes upon himself(he is a hill). He perfectly arranges everything for the pleasure of krishna.
He is also worshipped as krishna himself as in the annakuta festival organised by brajvasis, Govardhan ate all the offerings, it was actually Krishna who ate all the offering in the form of govardhan. So he has a dual role - as the best devotee and as the lord himself. This is inconceivable to understand, but that is what it is.
As gaudiya vaishnavas we i n the fottseteps of LCM consider Govardhan as Krishna and worship him as Krishna. We can make offerings to govardhan shila and worship.
