Forbidden eatables

hare Krishna all the devotees

All glories to srila Prabhupada

I know that many things are strictly prohibited like meat, eggs and intoxication

And some things should not be eaten like garlic, onion, as they are tamsik

But also I got know somedays ago, that we should not consume tea and coffee because they contain caffeine so I don't drink them anymore but I don't of chocolate should not eaten for the same reason or not? Is it also something we should not consume? I don't know so please help me.

Also I still eat onion and garlic as my family members eat it and I cannot cease to eat them because my parents think that if I stop eating them too I gives a signal that I might become a bhramchari or sadhu or something like that, so it a problem if I eat it for now, I have , of course, decided that I would definitely wont eat them once I start living alone. But for right now can I like eat them ,

  • You are on the right track, very sincere and know how to adjust reality to the situation. No need to feel guilty or worried. Krishna and Srila Prabhupada both want you to practice harmoniously, not forcefully, not cause family rifts. Keep your long-term goal, and in the present, keep your mind clean, live in harmony, and practice regularly, that is the best way.

  • chocolates contain a close cousin of caffeine , i suppose it is called theobromine or something.it gives a kick like caffeine but milder and also stays in the system for a while longer than caffeine.

and of course this is only valid for dark chocolates.you can definitely go for milk chocolates as already suggested by bharat prabhu g.

There are milk chocolates available without any Caffin as alternative if someone can't give up entirely.

  • Hare Krishna,

Chocolates are made up of cocoa beans which naturally contain some amount of caffine. It could make you addictive, so it should be avoided.
