Hare Krishna devoteesAGTSPPAMHOI had a few queries which I wanted to share with everyone and know your opinion. Is there something known as destiny. Is everything pre-written. Some please say so while others say we make our own destiny by our hardworks and efforts. Is it true that we can decide how our life is going to be my making efforts and worshipping Krishna? Also, do Krishna devotees believe in horoscope? I have heard that if a girl is manglik, she has to get married to a manglik boy. Are these just useless things? If we worship Krishna and have faith in him then why should we worry about how our future is going to be? We should know that Krishna gives us the very best. There are three elements—fate, effort, and time—which conjointly affect the course of one’s life. For example: A farmer’s crop depends on three factors: planting, rain, and time. Planting represents effort, and rain represents fate. If the farmer plants, but there is no rain, he’ll have no crop. And if it rains but he hasn’t planted, he’ll have no crop. Both fate and effort are required, as is time.
If we act properly and perform pious activities, we are awarded good fortune, and if we act sinfully, we have to suffer. Over time, good fate manifests as situations favorable to our endeavor and bad fate as unfavorable situations. Destiny may even give us enjoyment or suffering without much endeavor. Winning a lottery, being born in a rich family, or diseased body are examples of this.
By our endeavor we create our destiny: We reap what we sow.
Lord Krishna explains the effect of destiny in the Bhagavad-Gita As It Is (15.15). The Lord says, “I am seated in everyone’s heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge, and forgetfulness.” Later (18.61) Krishna reiterates: “The Supreme Lord is situated in everyone’s heart, O Arjuna, and is directing the wanderings of all living entities, who are seated as on a machine, made of the material energy.” In his purport Srila Prabhupada elaborates: “After changing bodies, the living entity forgets his past deeds, but the Supersoul, as the knower of the past, present, and future, remains the witness of all his activities. Therefore all the activities of living entities are directed by this Supersoul. The living entity gets what he deserves.”
Destiny and endeavor are linked by a third factor: time. Some actions may yield instant reactions, while the results of others may come after several lifetimes. For instance, if I were to punch someone, the reaction would be swift and immediate. But if I were to criticize someone secretly, the reaction would be delayed. In Bhakti-Rasamrita-Sindhu, Srila Rupa Goswami classifies reactions as already manifest (prarabdha) and waiting to manifest (aprarabdha). Some people may perform many pious activities and continue to suffer, while others may be performing sinful activities with apparent impunity. Looking at them we can understand that one reason for this is the factor of time, which separates them from the results of their activities.
An important point to understand is that the reactions to our prior activities can be altered. There are two processes for this. The first is prayashcitta, or atonement, and the second is devotional service.
The Vedic way of life prescribes atonement for sinful activities. With atonement, a person voluntarily accepts some penance to offset the reactions to previous sinful activities.
While activities performed in the mood of detachment do not have any reactions, devotional service, performed only for the pleasure of the Lord, goes one step further. It not only stops the cycle of karma; it relieves one from one’s due distress and eradicates the unmanifest desires in various stages of maturity. In Nectar of Devotion (1.1.17), Rupa Goswami describes devotional service, or bhakti, as kleshaghni shubhada, which means that if one takes to devotional service, all kinds of unnecessary labor and material distress cease entirely and one achieves all good fortune.
Horoscope:
Srila Prabhupada encouraged astrological compatibility in marriage.
It is explained in Srimad Bhagavatam 9.18.23: “According to the Vedic system, the parents would consider the horoscopes of the boy and girl who were to be married. If according to astrological calculations the boy and girl were compatible in every respect, the match was called yoṭaka and the marriage would be accepted. Even fifty years ago, this system was current in Hindu society. Regardless of the affluence of the boy or the personal beauty of the girl, without this astrological compatibility the marriage would not take place. A person is born in one of three categories, known as deva-gaṇa, manuṣya-gaṇa and rakṣasa-gaṇa. In different parts of the universe there are demigods and demons, and in human society also some people resemble demigods whereas others resemble demons. If according to astrological calculations there was conflict between a godly and a demoniac nature, the marriage would not take place…
Matching of horoscopes is based upon placing together those who are affected by similar modes of nature. After marriage, once a couple has settled into a friendly relationship, the ultimate goal of life—progressive cultivation of Krishna consciousness—can be furthered as a family unit.
Prabhupada enjoined us, to arrange a marriage scientifically according to the tenets of Vedanga Jyotish as advocated by Lord Brahma, who created the planets under Lord Krishna’s guidance. There should be rashi-maitri or friendliness of Moon signs and nakshatras, plus an overall balance between the two horoscopes and their directions. Only then should there be talk of marriage.
The matching of birth charts according to the qualities and tastes of the bride and groom has been fine-tuned to a science by the great sages since Lord Brahma created the Universe. It is tried, true and proven and works accurately to this day.
Each of us is born under one or another of the 108 aggregate padas or quarters of the twenty-seven nakshatras. Each one of these padas has certain tastes, qualities, influences, character and preferences which correspond favorably or unfavorably to the other nakshatra-padas. When the nakshatra-padas find compatibility, only then the total analysis of the chart may be undertaken and continued. As recommended by Srila Prabhupada a better fortune follows the auspicious couple who marry with the blessings of the stars. By living together in harmony, a foundation is created from which life’s real necessity, or bhakti-yoga, can be pursued in earnest.
Not everything is possible to be achieved by hardwork in one lifetime.
Is it true that we can decide how our life is going to be my making efforts and worshipping Krishna?
We can decide how much devotional we want to be in our life.
What about horoscopes, manglik etc ?
If one feels it is helpful they can use. If they find it is not useful they need not. Even if these are considered to be useful, they cannot replace Krsna or Krsna consicousness. They are not completely dependable. Only Krsna is completely dependable.
If we worship Krishna and have faith in him then why should we worry about how our future is going to be? We should know that Krishna gives us the very best.
It is not a question of Why, the point is we already worry about our future. We are conditioned to worry about the future. Faith on Krsna is not a zero or one mandate - Either put faith 100% faith on Krsna or dont believe in Krsna.
It is a journey from wherever we are to putting 100% faith in Krsna. This faith needs to increase and that can happen over time depending on one's eagerness to spiritualize oneself by following the nine processes of devotional service Hearing Chanting, remembering etc.

If fate is fixed then why do we pray to Krishna when we are in pain? And why does Krishna resolve our problems? Is it also pre-written? Are the miracles also pre-written?

Krishna is our father and mother.He only the srishtikartha all of us.we are his child.
Fate and destiny already fixed based upon our purva janma while we are entering to our mother womb.karmas based upon our purva karma phalangal.If we are suffering with problems it is based on our purva janma only.
But krishna being our mother and also father,no parents bare that their child worries.so,in krishna consciousness we have papa nivruthi.
And previously telling that while fate is fixed that time only he fix all the things going in our life from birth to last breath.it include marriage also.
Nothing worry about anything only krishna consciouness,he will take care our rest life.
