Deity worship in homes

hare Krishna to all the devotees

All glories to srila Prabhupada

Is it true that deity worship earlier was done only in temples and not in homes? People used to go to temples as they are pure and proper deity worship is done! So is deity worship in homes only for those who can't go to temple more often? Or it is as God as in temples of done properly?

also one other question - the site was showing "network locked" to me for somedays. It only opened today! It happened with everyone or only just to few people (like me)?

  • Hare Krishna,

Deity worship is restricted to only intiated devotees.. previously. Because unless you practice 4 regulative principles perfectly.  The house in which.. meat is not cooked. The house in which the gambling, the prostituition or the intoxication not done.. they are called Vaishnavas.

The Vaishnavas are only eligible for doing deity service perfectly as they are practicing 4 principles.

In temples by default all the paraphernalia etc. is done perfectly by the vaishnavas so it is perfect there. But if a devotee wants to do deity service at homes. homes should ( entire family) whoever is residing at the home should follow all 4 regulative principles. If one the members is a drunkard and doing vyabhichaar at home and in that dirty place you are keeping Lord Krishna and you alone having bhakti. Better to move out of that place.

    • But what about those who cannot move out. Or cannot go to temple very often? Is worshiping and doing aarti would be good enough?

Also then people should not keep deities in home? Since everyone does it now!

      • Hare Krishna,

You can do to a photo and not a deity please. if deity is there take care..keep the utensils to cook bhoga for Lord or other things away from such people.or do aarti and worship and offer flower, fruit water or milk with are uncooked ( is better).. offering plate, bowl etc. shouldn't be used for any other purposes and kept only for Lord seperately and never mixed or washed with the other utensils which you are using for making or cooking meat etc.

        • And that is why Hari naam sankirtan is considered the most RISK FREE and easiest method of worship!

        • So photo (like a portrait) can be kept in temple (in home) ? We have a portrait of Radha Krishna.

          • Yes
