  • Hare Krsna Damen James  :-) Of course it is, on Tulsi beads. I wish you attentiveness and connection in love with God. And especially buy deity Sri Sri Gaura Nitay ,and chant in front of Them.

  •  Hare Krishna Prabhu ji,

    https://iskcondesiretree.com/forum/topics/can-i-chant-on-tulasi-mal...

I want you to read the answers given by mataji's under this question. It is important that you follow regulative principles to be eligible to chant on Tulasi mala. If you are not able to follow the reglative principles. then you chant for time being on Neem Mala ( neem tree bead mala) or a counter. But keep chanting. Even if it is offensive chanting but still keep chanting because chanting itself will purify you internally slowly and make you reach perfection!!!.

It is not a rule that only tulsi beads be used by intiated devotees. Any devotee who is able to follow regulative principles can take up Tulasi beads.

    I hope it is clear.

Can I chant on Tulasi Mala if I am consuming onion and garlic ?

  • I have never read anything where Srila Prabhupada limted who could chant on tulsi beads.  I bought my first beads at my local temple in the early 80s, and they were tulsi beads - I was uninitiated at the time.

As far as I have heard, in my almost 40 years around ISKCON, anyone can chant on tulsi. I have heard some devotees, years later, say if you are not following all 4 regulations not to use tulsi mala, but I have never seen a Prabhupada source for that. There a lot of "Prabhupada says" people... but without a quoted source I take those answers with a grain of salt.  (and if someone has a quote I would be interested in seeing it)

    • Right on, thanks for writing..  All glories to Srila Prabhupada!  Hare Krishna!

      • I do not know the rules on link sharing for this site. I have a couple bhakta handbook links you might be interested in...

        • I think you can just type in the links - I don't know for sure??  I don't know the rules for it either..?  Hare Krsna!

          • Haribol. Hopefully this breaks no rules... my blog is not monetized, so is not in competition with any other site...

I have some old bhakta handbooks, Vaishnava etiquette guides, and such.  None of this is mine, but it is so old I doubt there is any copyright issue. The Hare Krishna handbook is from 1970 and is a real blast from the past - one of the highlights is a section with pictures of Srila Prabhupada teaching how to apply tilak. The Vaishnava etiquette book goes into a lot of detail on devotee behavior.  The bhakta handbook is written as a Windows help file (a chm file). It has a lot of good information in it as well.

Some good information, and some great old books to see the early days.
