Chanting on Japa beads

Hi

I have purchased some japa beads and have been practicing meditation on the maha mantra.

I have found for me the best ways to get the most benefit is if I am moving, walking or even dancing.

I have even tried extensively in one period to chant whilst hiking which was the best of all.

I am just curious what others find works best for them chanting on japa beads?

I have found sitting stationary in one spot I loose concentration quite easily unless the setting is serene.

Would love to hear your thoughts :)

  • Hare Krishna,

Can I know what type of japa beads you have purchased?

I see you are back into eating eggs. In that case I would suggest not using a Tulasi japa mala.

Until you cannot curb the habit of eating eggs and other restricted stuff, Pls. avoid Tulasi japa mala. Or maybe consult someone in the temple regarding that. If you purchased SOME..japa mala made of SOME ordinary beads then I guess it is fine.

Best time is usually early morning Bramha Muhurta as per rule.

But you see When you call your mother or father do ya see the right time ? you just give a call  right away..and ask how are you? ...RIGHT?  If you have that feeling of closeness towards Lord .....and if you are doing with love for Lord then you can do it any time.

Yes, if you see lord as God or boss then you must see the right time when to call a boss. You cannot disturb lord as per ur will and wish.

But as per rule book if you go ....during Bramha Muhurta time... many of us are in the mode of goodness ( ie, satva guna).

But again Lord name once it is taken out it cleans the space around you , in cleanses within you and cleanses outside you.

as soon as you remember the lotus eyed beautiful form of Lord.

    ॐ अपवित्रः पवित्रो वा सर्वावस्थां गतोऽपि वा ।
    यः स्मरेत्पुण्डरीकाक्षं स बाह्याभ्यन्तरः शुचिः ॥
Om Apavitrah Pavitro Vaa Sarva-Avasthaam Gato-[A]pi Vaa |
    Yah Smaret-Punnddariikaakssam Sa Baahya-Abhyantarah Shucih ||

    Meaning:

Om, if one is Apavitra (Impure) or Pavitra (Pure), or even in all other conditions, ...
He who remembers Pundarikaksha (Another name of Sri Vishnu, literally meaning with Lotus-like Eyes), He becomes Pure outwardly as well as inwardly.

As soon as Lord Krishna name is taken out of the mouth it cleanses you internally as well as externally!!!

Yes ofcourse not possible for anyone to be in sitting position all the time and doing focused chanting all the time. Mind will go here and there and your body will  not be  cooperating with you......You can give breaks when you chant. But again.. it is better to  chanting all 16 rounds in one go, it is  always best.

Sitting with your spine erect is always good but again you can walk, take a stroll in the garden while you chant observe the nature praise Lord for all the beautiful nature that He provided us. Take deep breaths while you chant feel the presence of Lord within your heart. Enjoy while you chant. Visualize that Lord is blowing air into the flute and through the flute air is flowing into you lungs. Lord is the cause of all causes. Without Him we cannot even think of taking breaths what to say about chanting.  It is His mercy that you are able to take His holy name on your lips also. Feel grateful to HIM.

You can look at the deities also while you chant.  Mind automatically cools off and comes into mode of goodness as soon as you get completely involved in Lord holy name. Name itself cleanses you.

Finally everyone develops his individual way to please and serve lord. Lord accepts anything done with bhakti and prema. read this below story.

I recently read one story about this chanting.. Which is good

Please go thru the last two paragraph very carefully.

    Chant and be happy.!

Chanting in bathroom is an exceptional case and only in rare occcasions. NARADA, HANUMAN AND A MAN WHO CHANTED AT TOILET - STORY explains this.
    • Thankyou kindly Gayatri. I can always rely on your wonderful feedback.

As of today I stopped eating eggs again. I had done so for many months but the last few weeks felt quite weak so something in my diet was not quite right. I was trying to figure it out. Anyway...I am researching that and learning lots and almost back on track with diet.

      I digress...

The beads are indeed made of Tulsi wood. (I purchased them from the Krishna store). I gather by your words that perhaps we are defiling the beads if we are not stopping the  main restrictions? (Eating meat, eggs and fish, intoxicants, sexual misconduct ). If so I am sorry :(

Thanks for your kind words. They are always very helpful.

It is always a learning process...

    Hare KRsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

For me, the best time to chant is mangal muhurta (before sunrise) or after 9.00 - 9.30 pm, when all the work is over.

The best chanting is sitting and concentrating, though it is also the most difficult to do.

I like to look at the deities when I chant.

Another best time to chant is on empty stomach - the best chanting is on nirjal ekadasi day, whole day.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

    Radha Rasamayi DD
