Hello,

Due to family issues, my mind is almost always occupied and I find it difficult to chant 16 rounds of Hare Krishna mahamantra each day. However, of late, I have discovered and downloaded pure devotional music which has "Hare Krishna" mahamantra as will as "Jai Sri Krishna Chaitanya prabhu nityananda..." mantra combined in the same music. I use this music to chant the mantras for almost 3 hours a day. What I want to ask is that though I am may not be chanting requisite 16X108 times Hare Krishna mahamantra which would take lesser time (1.5-2 hours), is it OK to chant lesser number of times Hare Krishna mahamantra but for greater amount of time (because of music 3 hours)?

    Hare KRsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

There is no substitute for chanting. It is not a boring act. It is a very productive part of the day, when we connect with the lord through His name directly. If you have time to hear kirtan for 3 hours, I am sure you have time to chant japa for 2 hours and then hear kirtan for balance 1 hour. When you are hearing kirtan and chanting, are you chanting on beads or simply hearing and carrying on with some light work?

Please chant prabhu - this is the shortest and surest method to attain purity and go back to godhead.

    Haribol,

Could you please provide details of what using music for chanting means ?

It is better than not chanting the Hare Krsna Mahamantra. But nothing is a substitute for chanting the Hare Krsna Mahamantra for required number of rounds.
