Can somebody explain Srimad-Bhagavatam 7.14.5 ?

Hare Krsna

" While working to earn his livelihood as much as necessary to maintain body and soul together, one who is actually learned should live in human society unattached to family affairs, although externally appearing very much attached. "

SB 7.14.5

I was wondering how to externally appear very much attached whereas one is actually unattached to family affairs?

  • There was a Seth ji who used to be always counting money. he was taunted and make fun of by every person passerby. They said how miser he is always counts money.. write hisaab kitaab.

This Seth ji used to lend money and used to collect interest rate and if anyone couldn't repay he was very strict in vasooli and kept all accounts properly.  he never agreed to take one paisa less or even preferred to take one paisa more also. Such was his attitude. even if there is a 1rupee collected more he would return it back .. he was pakka in his job.

All used to think this man is such a miser.. he is took strict in vasooli. all the time making hisaab kitaab and counting money... even children made fun of him.

Krishna knows that he is not a miser. Krishna sees what the thought behind this actions not what is outwardly visible.

the Seth ji always said Ye le tera Krishna every coin he counted ye Le tera hisaab teekh taak bana diya maine Krishna. Ye rahe tumhare paise Krishna. Aise hisaab kitaab bana ke woh Krishna ko saumpta rehta.

this seth ji used to feel that he is working for Krishna and he is Krishna's money manager. THIS Seth ji felt that whatever he got was all because of Krishna and whatever belongs to Krishna... Krishna should get it perfectly well. So he did his job perfectly. This Seth ji internally felt he was working for Krishna .. money which Krishna gave is given under interest to people who needed it and he used to do vasooli and collect every paisa properly back and made hisaab kitaab and presented to Krishna. :-) Arey aap dete ko kanha mai toh beech wala hoon. Mera kya hai ...

Krishna also wanted to test this Seth ji he gave him more and more money to test whether he is going to change and check if he develops lobha ( greed).

Krishna will test every one... If you are able to pass it or not.?

Theory.,. this page you read? that page of BG SB you read? no use.. Unless you pass the tests given by Krishna.

Krishna's tests us everyday every minute. We keep failing Krishna thats the reason why we are struck here.

The day we pass His Tests we will be eligible for Goloka.

The Seth ji was outwardly looking miserly but inwardly he is perfected and passed all tests of Krishna.

Self realized beings outward activities usually doesn't correlate with the inner thoughts.

Outwardly He may appear as a drunkard ... and dancing in Samshaan.. rubbing all the over his body ashes and he looks ugly following no religious principles but Shiva ji is internally always meditating on Shri Rama.

Sometimes we cannot gauge people from their outward appearance.

In society also we see many people  :-) esp.in hospitals .. nursing staff... they take care of the patient very well..talk gently act as if they really love you.. some times the patient also misunderstands that oh that nurse maybe in love with me so she is serving me so nicely... but you see.. next day another patient comes.. she shows same amount of kindness and love.. that is her duty..but then internally she loves her husband and her family..

In the same way one must live in this world ..like as if this is a temporary life.. all our relationships here we are doing like as if a duty.. and when the duty is done.. we go back to Krishna who is our original relative.. husband, lover son. father.. whatever is ur relationship with him.

But when we are living in this world like this.. also... some friends and relatives will tell us.. this saree looks good this jewellry is so nice.. did you watch that movie this movie.. that place is worth visiting.. did you go there.. that this.. suno sab ki.. sahi hai bolo.. karo apne mann ki.

Sunne aur bolo sahi hai.. achha hai.. achha behan ji mujhe nahi pata tha.. sundar hai saari waise.. khoob badiyan hai jewellery bhi.. mann mein uske chal raha hota hai.. saree ko na achha as poshak bana sakte hai Krishna radha ke liye.. ye color suit karega.. >. :-) jewellry bhi achhi hai.. isko chhote chhote tukde mein kaat de toh mere kanha ji ko pehna sakti hoon. yeh jo bracelet hai na .. ye size chhoti wali lenge toh Radha ke payal ban sakte hai.

movies bhi gaye toh beech mein .. humko koi scene chal raha hota hai.. humein koi aur cheezein yaad aane lagti hai.. krishna did like this that time... and we are all smiling internally humare dimak mein kuch aur chal raha hota hai. Looks like we are in the family affairs but mann humara Krishna pe laga hota hai.

Gopi's cleaning every nook and corner of the house... so nicely doing all chores.. making butter.. cleaning pots.. and making food... thinking in mind........Krishna will come home to steal butter .. so I must make and keep butter ready,,, and cleaned the home and cleaned the pots and made fresh butter. Sab krishna ke liye karti..It looked like as if they are immersed in family affairs but their minds were fixed on Krishna.. they decorated their homes nicely they decorated themselves nicely with sandal paste..and flowers .. applied kajal and nathni.. thinking Krishna is going to come see them. so they looked outwardly very very attached.. They were serving kids milk and butter and seeing Krishna in them and giving them more milk and butter.

temporary stay hai karke humko isko neglect bhi nahi karna hai. Na is mein ulaj jaana hai. .. Stay as if like a drop of water on a lotus leaf.

It is there but is not attached to it it wont stick to it. it rolls off untouched. aise logon ko hi Jivan mukt bolte hai.

A devotee should not be aggrieved in an awkward position, nor should he feel extraordinarily happy in material opulence. This is the way of expert management of material life. Because a devotee knows how to manage expertly, he is called jīvan-mukta. As Rūpa Gosvāmī explains in Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu:

    īhā yasya harer dāsye
    karmaṇā manasā girā
    nikhilāsv apy avasthāsu
    jīvan-muktaḥ sa ucyate

"A person acting in Kṛṣṇa consciousness (or, in other words, in the service of Kṛṣṇa) with his body, mind, intelligence and words is a liberated person even within this material world, although he may be engaged in many so-called material activities." Because of constantly engaging in devotional service, in any condition of life, a devotee is free from all material bondage.

    • Hare Krsna

Actually i don't know what to say Mataji. Perhaps you are right!

    • Hare Krsna

Nahi mataji, aisa nahi ho paayega, ' andar se kuch aur bahar se kuch aur. ' I feel that is ok as long as one is not Krsna conscious. Mahaprabhu also says jare dekho tare kaho Krsna upadesa. It literally means what you have, you project outside.

      • In bhakti we can copy aacharyas and follow 4 regulative promciples we can take inspiration from others bhakti but one cannot copy others sentiments and emotions. Each one is unique and has a special way to impress Krishna and our Krishna loves variety. There is no hard and fast rule in prem.

        • That is quite alright Mataji. The question pertains to the social dealings of a person who has developed ecstatic prem for Krsna. How far can one hide the symptoms? Perhaps you are right. We must act in such a way in front of ordinary people so that they don't even suspect your inner thoughts related to Krsna. Otherwise, if they misunderstand or make fun then it is not good.

          • Well, one cannot simulate exactly what others are doing as it is makki to makki... even though in books it may be written🙄 bhakti chupana acchi baat hai lekin jab bhakti overflow hojaayegi tho chupana mushkil... bhakti chupane se badhti hai kehte hai na buri nazar lag jaati kabhi kabhi... jaise do log prem karte hai wife and husband duniya walon ke saamne dikha diya public display of emotions ( PDE) tho log bolenge ye tho joru ka ghulam hai .... bhakti also is we are chanting 16 rounds and reading books we don't show off i am doing 16 rounds... and i am reading so and so chapter.. this just add to pride.. and you will lose interest in it quickly.

            • The purpose of mentioning the Canto, chapter and verse number is to connect everyone with the literature of Prabhupada. If I want to connect with you then I will give you my opinion but you may not trust me because what is my value? Who am I?

Authority is very important and when you have a Vedic authority like Srila Prabhupada what need is there for other explanations?

Besides, if I present my opinion and people like it then that will add to my pride. On the other hand providing reference means no false-ego or its interactions.

              • Can somebody explain Srimad-Bhagavatam 7.14.5 ?

You are too prideful to take others opinions or explanations into consideration also.

then whats the purpose of posting these questions?

Better you post these as a blog if anyone wants to read they will read and reply as Thank you .. Thats all

NEXT TIME ONWARDS I WONT EVEN BOTHER TO REPLY TO YOUR Questions.

As now I got to understand that you don't need any explainations..

I thought you were expecting us to react or connect.. when u have the question and answer with you.... I don't think we need to react or respond also.

Thanks for giving us a hint that we don't even need to reply to these types of questions...which are having purports and vedic authority giving sufficient explaination.

read the purport must be the MAxium reply to ur question like -
