Can committing sin through thoughts turn into reality

Hare Krishna,

I wanted to ask  how strong our thoughts are. Is it possible for evil thoughts about somebody to actually turn into reality ? For eg, If we think enough of killing someone just in our thoughts (minds), is it possible for it to actually happen ?

Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

Answer is yes and no. Whatever action we take, it is the result of a thought that germinated in our mind, right? The converse need not be always true. Whatever thought we have, we can stop our actions, provided we have trained ourselves to monitor our thoughts and filter what is right and what is wrong. To an extent, we all do this. Every single thought is not converted into action.

How to stop our thoughts from converting into action? By removing it from our thoughts. Repeated contemplation of a thought will increase the chances of converting into action. Whereas repearing in our mind that this thought is perverse and should not be done, distracting the mind by engaging in something positive will prevent us from converting into action.

If we think enough of killing someone just in our thoughts (minds), is it possible for it to actually happen ?

Desire to sin is the seed which begins a complex cycle & chain of action, reaction in which soul can get entangled endlessley. Material nature is designed to fulfill the material desires of living entity.

If person P desires to kill Q, then P will kill Q eventually, if not in this lifetime then some other. That desire in P's heart to kill cannot be removed by any material means. In the absence of a deliberate spiritual process to nullify that desire, material nature will arrange for the killing to occur. That is why vedas are filled with materialistic rituals and processes to fulfill the material desires in way that is not harmful to any other person. But Krsna condemns these type of processes in BG because they do not elevate the soul.

Now that one desire is sufficient to keep P in material world till P kills Q. Now imagine meanwhile how many more desires will be accumulated. How many desires are already there in our hearts.

Even the fire of annihilation that comes from the mouth of transcendental serpant Ananta sesa that burns up entire universe at the end of Brahma's life is cannot remove material desires present in heart of living entity. Only Krsna can remove our sinful desires. Chanting of holy names of Krsna is the only hope in kali yuga. By chanting holy names we cleanse our heart of all sinful desires over a period of time. By receiving soul contaminating input with our senses and associating with people that indulge and glorify sense gratification our soul plunges in the ocean of ignorance.

Hence we should strive to chant Holy names of krsna and discuss Krsna katha with devotees. That is the only way to cleanse or heart and prevent contamination of our heart.

hare krsna bharat prji, i have a ques here.

suppose if one person thought about somethings bad in past but after sometime the desire got vanished by any means then still the desire will come true in next upcoming births(or in other words the desire will become reason of his rebirth). even if the desire is long anymore in heart still will it be have reaction. we talk for mansik paap. what are they, are thy reflection of thoughts.

one more question here, what is the origin of thoughts?

Hare Krsna

Can past desire be reason for another birth ?

It depends how the desire got vanished.

1. If the desire got fulfilled and the desire is completely eradicated then it is not there. Example: Dhruva Maharaj had desire to achieve kingdom greater than Brahma. Lord Visnu fulfilled that desire. As a result he no more had that desire and went back home back to godhead as stated in SB below

sa ca svarlokam ārokṣyan
 sunītiṁ jananīṁ dhruvaḥ
anvasmarad agaṁ hitvā
 dīnāṁ yāsye tri-viṣṭapam

Dhruva was seated in the transcendental airplane, which was just about to start, when he remembered his poor mother, Sunīti. He thought to himself, “How shall I go alone to the Vaikuṇṭha planet and leave behind my poor mother?” SB 4.12.32

2. If desire is unfulfilled but desire fades away in time due to change in circumstances or lack of opportunity for fulfillment then it means that the desire has retreated to subconscious mind. It may come up again in future life or in same life when external circumstances facilitate fulfillment of desire.

Eg: Small children cannot enjoy sex life because their organs are not developed for sex. But they can still feel the agitation of sex impulse when they see something provocative. The thoughts of sex desire are not very prominent in small children, but they do have desires for other things like games, sweets etc. This is sex desire being dormant and other desires being dominant in conscious mind.

In due course of time when they attain puberty, the sex desire which was previously dormant becomes dominant in conscious mind.

The point is even when desire is not in conscious mind, it will still be present in subconscious mind if it is unfulfilled. It is almost never vanquished.

3. If a devotee pleases Krsna or divine servitor of Krsna then he gets taste for hearing & chanting Krsna. By that process of hearing & chanting all material desires can be vanquished as given in SB

naṣṭa-prāyeṣv abhadreṣu
 nityaṁ bhāgavata-sevayā
bhagavaty uttama-śloke
 bhaktir bhavati naiṣṭhikī

By regular attendance in classes on the Bhāgavatam and by rendering of service to the pure devotee, all that is troublesome to the heart is almost completely destroyed, and loving service unto the Personality of Godhead, who is praised with transcendental songs, is established as an irrevocable fact.

If there is full opportunity for fulfillment of a past desire but the person is still not willing to act upon it, only then can that person be sure that the desire has gone away.

Also once a desire has been completely removed due to serious spiritual practice, the desire can still come back to mind due to bad association or offenses. Hence we have to be in association of devotees as much as possible and practice hearing & chanting while keeping distance from material association.

we talk for mansik paap. what are they, are thy reflection of thoughts.

They are more like contemplation on performing sinful activities. Sins committed on mental platform are not punished in kali yuga. But whatever are performed grossly are punished.

Mental action precedes gross action.

oky, thnks prji, hare krsna

From my personal experience i can say it' a 50-50 thing. Ofcourse of killing I donot know as I never desired any ill for anyone and since most of us want pakistan destroyed it would have happened  But yes some times positive thoughts really bring miraculous results but not always. But still think always good that' all I can say

Hare Krishna. Here is my personal opinion. It's Kali-Yuga. It is very difficult to control our thoughts in Kali-Yuga. We are not karmically responsible for our thoughts. I use to use my "violent fantasies" of killing someone at work as a way of dealing with job stress. I have worked in some very stressful and hostile work environments. Am I going to kill those persons in this life or in my next life? No, I am not. I am not karmically responsible for my thoughts. That being said, if I were in a job where I thought for one minute that I would actually try to hurt or kill a person at work, I would immediately leave that job and get a new job.

If you could tell us the exact problem we all can help you. Simply by thinking bad about others will not cause any harm to others. It never happened in previous yugas then how can it happen in kali? Higher power lower power black magic this that this is all a waste. I am sorry to say this but this is a fact

Is it possible for our negative thoughts to make somebody random act on our behalf ?

there are ghosts and demonic spirits, but they attack only people who are highly depressed & can possess them also, but they can't attack normal enthusiastic people or chanters of holy names (ref. Bhakti Tirtha Swami Spiritual warrior I )

1 reason is they don't have physical body & they want to fulfil some bodily desire (eg. eating etc..) so they try to possess someone else's body ... i suggest u read ebook :

Spiritual Warrior I: Uncovering Spiritual Truths in Psychic Phenomena by bhakti tirtha swami for detailed info on these subjects, available on amazon

Plz donot spread these kinda things. People then goto babas who nicely loot these people or tell them to do narbali (human sacrifice) and these ppl don't even hesitate to kill their own family members and this evening well educated ppl have done. They're several casespecially

Spirits only have their planets as per bg or they are associates of lord shiva that' it.

Namaste, i read somewhere that we acquire sin not only by doing evil action but also by evil  thoughts.  Sinful thoughts will be stored as sanchita karma  or karma that are accumulated. Then in future births they will come into effect as prarabdha karma. The person will then suffer from it.
