Hare Krsna! iskcon always mentions in its donation letter that the goddess of fortune resides with those who are charitable. we have been donating for over a decade now on every janmashtami, makar, cow, etc regularly. we were happy with whatever we had and never desired more but now my business is totally down

Even prabhupads business failed many times, he started 4 business at regular interval they all failed and that made him more serious in bhakti and later he took sanyas. So material prosperity going down is a sign of spiritual success, dont take it otherwise, if prabhupad had got success in business Iskcon wouldnt have been the possibility. For higher cause krsna does this lila and then through you he will deliver many souls and through prabhupad krsna claimed many conditioned souls.
I have been through very bad phases in my life. I know one thing for sure....its tough however my faith in Krishna kept me steer through ways which I have felt closed forever and things happened good in such a way that i never felt I am meant for them.
As per my Bhakti Briksha prabhuji develop bhakti for Krishna....other things will follow. Whatever basic requirements you will have. Again I will reuqest you to surrender at the lotus feet of Krishna....because you cant invite home a prestigious lady like Lakshmi Devi without asking her Husband's permission. If Krishna is not accompanied by Lakshmi Devi its obvious that she will move away as fast as she enters ur home.....because thats what respectable women do....they dont stay at places where their husband is not residing.

You have answered your own question - the Goddess of Fortune resides in those who are charitable WITHOUT DESIRES. Your charity was not without desires na prabhuji.
Secondly, recently I read a statement - some people are so poor that all they have is money. Do you want to be one of those?
So what if business is down, it will pick up again. No situation in the material world is constant. Buck up, chin up, nose down and go through the grind. You will emerge victorious if you learn to keep Krsna in the centre.
I personally know so many devotees, whose income has become 1/3 or 1/4 of what it was earlier, because of the time they spend on devotion and they have no regrets. The focus changes from earning riches to having enough to maintain family.
Daadi means Rani Sati Daadi - a lot of people I know pray to her. She is an Uttara reborn in Kaliyuga.

i will not try to convice about the Laxmi's where abouts . and when Devi comes and Go . all i will say is dont loose Faith . because we all know Faith can lift mountains and change course of rivers.

1. what is Donation ?
2. why have you donated to isckon ?
3. what were your expectations from donations ?
lets say i only have 1000 $ and if i dont invest that my business and do all the money in charity . will i survive ?
Krishna always says to become "AKARTA" - do your work with zest and loyalty and leave result on him .
so the statement given by ISCKON suggests when you do charity your fortune is safe . Fortune is always not consists of MONEY Or Business . consider this situation as a challange .
and if possible always try to remember following
"Dont tell GOD how big your problem is , rather tell Problems how Big and powerful your GOD is" .
you charity will Pay dont worry . your fortune is safe if your Hard earned Money is gone to Charity and it will come back 10000 Folds dont worry .
have your heart clean and start to restart everything . considering your errors of past in business .

I appreciate your honesty. That is the beauty of praying to Krsna, He is showing you the right approach to prayers. Right now, you have a choice in front of you - either you start praying to Krsna even more fervently (with or without desires, doesnt matter); or you give up Krsna bhakti and decide better to pray to some demigod for faster results; or you give up prayers altogether and decide athiests are happier, atleast they are doing their own thing.
Depending on what you choose, the results will be - if you choose the first option, you will benefit the most, the most long term (because it will never get destroyed), and you will eventually have all the wealth in the world that you need, at the same time, your hankering for wealth will stop completely and you will progress spiritually. The second option will give you wealth faster, it will make you puffed up, you will end up praying to Durga or Daadi or Sai Baba or some such kula devata or kuladevi. THis wealth will end with this life and next life, its a new start - no garauntee of human birth or riches. The third option will kind of garauntee that next birth will not be a human birth. YOu will go back to the 84 lakh yonis cycle.
THe choice is yours prabhuji.
Think hard and choose wisely.

Did you donate with the intention that you will prosper more or did you donate for spiritual benefit? Your intention to donate is very important - Pls read Gita - 3 types of charity are mentioned.
Secondly, business is down now - this is not the end prabhuji, this is just the bend. Business is like this only, sometimes up and sometimes down. Lakshmi is known as cancala - she never stays in one place. THe way the earlier days are no more, the same way these days will not last.
The thing to do in such circumstances is - try to recoup your business/ think of a new line fo business - you know best. At the same time, whatever you earn, try to take aside a little amount for donation. If you cannot do that now, dont fret. Dont donate - its ok.
Keep chanting the mahamantra and doing your karma - Krsna will surely show you the way.
