Hare Krishna Prabhuji. Dandavat Pranam. All Glories to Srila Prabhupada

In our day to day life we interact with this phenomenon world through our senses (five senses) along with three subtle elements i.e. mind intelligence and false ego. As we are conscious being, so our consciousness flows through this eight elements (5 senses+mind+intelligence+false ego= 8) and we percieve the world of matter. So as we percieve it inturns makes our thought and memory, thought and memory intrun makes a certain kind of attitude within us, and this attitude inturns makes our behaviour. Again we percieve the world according to ourway of thinking and attitude. So its become a cycle .

Now what we percieve is nothing but the interaction of three modes (passion, igorance and goodness). Because everything in this world is combination of three Gunas or modes. It includes the association we associate with, books we read, food we eat , music, form we see all. So whole the day when we interact with people, books, music, food we intake the gunas in the form of either passion or ignorance or goodness. Thus it effects our consciousness. And we become either pssionate, or ignorant according to the mode of input that we have consumed.

Just like Spicy, hot , food wil make us passionate, all kind of lusty thought will arise if we take such food.

Just like after taking alcohol people become mad , and out of control which is a sign of Ignorance

Just like seeing obscene material in tv or magazine or internet, that kind of thought arise and we judge our surrounding according to that conception.

Just like Hight Pitch hard rock, metal makes the mind disturbed and agitate.

Just like when we associate with business people , we get desire of that kind, which the subject matter is about. Desire also comes to invest etc.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hence what we intake in our day to day life in form of food, books, association, its makes our thought process and inturn our consciousness. But now the consciousness has to be purified. But How?

The way is we can't stop ourself to take input , because if we don't engage the eight elements mentioned earlier in any object , then it is equal to dead stone. But as we are living being , we need engagement of our consciousness but at the same time we have to careful that we are not polluting our consciousness.

So the process is to enagage our consciousness in Nirguna ( Not passion, not goodness, not ignorance) subject matter. That is to take input from transcendental subject , which are not contaminated by three modes (namely free from passion, ignorance) . Now what are the transcendental subject matter?

Transcendental subject matter is which are related to Krishna (because Krishna is nirguna). So anything associate to Krishna is nirguna (free of three modes). So now the previous material association , mundane book reading, passionate and ignorant food we have to replace with Krishna conscious association, reading books related to Krishna, Taking only sattvik food which are offered to Krishna. These will gradually makes our Consciousness transcendental.

transcendental association - we have to associate with devotees, where the subject of discussion is topic related to Krishna only.

transcendental Books - we have to read books of Srila Prabhupada only (specially Bhagavad Gita and Bhagavatam). These books are nirguna because the subject matter is Kirshna. Hence our intelligence become pure and we able to discriminate the duality of world through that purified intelliegence.

transcendental food - Food without tinge of flesh , onion, garlic , and that which is sattvik and offered to Krishna. Food are also of three modes, as Krishna saying

BG 17.7: Even the food each person prefers is of three kinds, according to the three modes of material nature. The same is true of sacrifices, austerities and charity. Now hear of the distinctions between them.

BG 17.8: Foods dear to those in the mode of goodness increase the duration of life, purify one's existence and give strength, health, happiness and satisfaction. Such foods are juicy, fatty, wholesome, and pleasing to the heart.

BG 17.9: Foods that are too bitter, too sour, salty, hot, pungent, dry and burning are dear to those in the mode of passion. Such foods cause distress, misery and disease.

BG 17.10: Food prepared more than three hours before being eaten, food that is tasteless, decomposed and putrid, and food consisting of remnants and untouchable things is dear to those in the mode of darkness.

So we see from the above example that the diet we take effect our consciousness , hence we have to take that kind of food which Krishna suggest

BG 9.26: If one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, fruit or water, I will accept it.

so we have to take fruits, grains and vegetables as our intake to always be in transcendental consciousness.

transcendental Chanting - Chanting 16 rounds attentively daily (Hearing and Chanting) cleanses the mirror of our heart. There are five anarthas or unwanted stuff we have collected from time immemorial , they are lust, greed, anger, envy, pride, illusion. So chanting removes these anrthas, and revive our forgotten love for Krishna gradually.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So during the tenure of following the A,B,C,D we go throught 9 stages of Bhakti and ultimately reach the goal that is Krishna prema (Love for GodHead)

    1. sraddha: faith
    2. sadhu-sanga: association with devotees
    3. bhajana-kriya: performance of devotional service
    4. anartha nivrtti: decreasing of unwanted attachments
    5. nistha: steadiness
    6. ruci: taste
    7. asakti: attachment
    8. bhava: love
    9. prema: pure love for Krsna
