Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the Hare Krishnas, or International Society For Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), formed to encourage the spread of bhakti yoga, a Hindu spiritual practice in which followers devote all actions and intenti

Prabhupada: You also keep account? [laughs]

Manasvi: No, they put that ad in every day.

Siddha-svarupa: They

In the book The Seventh Goswami, a biography of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura , it is stated that Thakura Bhaktivinoda prayerfully invoked the Lord, and expressed his heartfelt desire,  “When will that day come when the fair-skinned foreigners will come to Sri Mayapur-dhama and join with the Bengali Vaisnavas to chant ‘Jaya Sacinandana, Jaya Sacinandana!’ … Very soon the chanting of Harinama sankirtana will be spread all over the world. Ever since his childhood, Srila Prabhupada was always very fond of Lord Jagannatha. At the young age of five, Srila Prabhupada, who at that time was known as Abhay Caran, wanted to hold his own Ratha-yatra festival in his birth home in Kolkata. Despite having some financial difficulties, Krsna arranged everything, and little Abhay held his first ever Ratha-yatra festival at home. Many years later, ISKCON's first ever Ratha-yatra was held in Los Angeles, San Francisco on July 9, 1967, and tens of

Q. I encountered a verse that seemingly contradicts a verse in the Bhagavad Gita. and I was wondering if you could help me to understand how to reconcile these two verses.

Srimad Bhagavatam (Canto 2, chapter 2, text 27)
“In that planet of Satyaloka, there is neither bereavement, nor old age nor death. There is no pain of any kind, and therefore there are no anxieties, save that sometimes, due to consciousness, there is a feeling of compassion for those unaware of the process of devotional servi

This morning I read a posting by Vijaya Dasa, ISKCON’s Minister of Book Distribution, in which he relates an interesting encounter he had heard described after one of his classes:

When in Alachua I gave a Bhagavatam class about book distribution, a Vaishnavi, Guru Prasad dasi, commented on an experience she had had distributing books.

She was distributing at the Dallas airport without much success, but she was still happily approaching people.

A lady sitting nearby was watching and finally walk

If the name ISKCON conjures montages of Dev Anand’s 1971 blockbuster film Hare Rama Hare Krishna to mind, you are not alone. Many have associated the decadence of the hippie culture depicted in the film with the Vaishnava religious movement, but that is only one side of the coin. Although many of the initial followers happened to be hippies, ISKCON has evolved into something more. But it begs the question. How did the hippies cotton on to ISKCON?

“ISKCON, which turned 50 last year, was incorpor

Since the time of Lord Chaitanya, Navadvip has been a place of scriptural learning. It is evident from Chaitanya-bhagavata (Adi 2.60-61),

nana-desa haite loka navadvipe yaya
navadvipe padile se ‘vidya-rasa’ paya

“Many people came from various provinces to study in Navadvipa because by studying there one achieved a taste for education.”

ataeva paduyara nahi samuccaya

“Therefore no one could count the innumerable students and millions of teachers gathered there.”
