Remembering Aindra Prabhu

In the summer of 2006, this blog was created when several of us decided to go to Vrindavan to participate in VIHE courses and live in the dham for several months. I can't speak for the others, but for me that was only really a cover reason for going as my main motivation was to participate in HG Aindra Prabhu's kirtans. I had been fascinated with his kirtan for several years before that, eagerly awaiting any new live recordings or videos that would come out of Vrindavan. Back in those days there

sanatana gaswami uvaca:

In Hari-bhakti-vilasa, verse 2.147, Srila Sanatan Goswami quotes
Sammohana-tantra:

gopayed devatam istam gopayed gurum atmanah
gopayec ca nijam mantram gopayen nija-malikam

One should hide one's ista-deva, one should hide one's guru, one should hide
one's mantra, and one should hide one's japa-mala.

Wise persons keep their valuables in a confidential place. Similarly, an
intelligent sadhaka does not advertise his or her guru, nor do they
broadcast themselves as disciples of their guru. Considering thems

How does

a devotee take suffering ?

When there is suffering given by Krishna, a devotee does not take seriously suffering. A devotee thinks, “It is thefavour of Krishna that He has put me into suffering.” They never see suffering as suffering. It is favour of Krishna. That is devotee’s vision. It is exactly like a son who knows his father well. If the father slaps, the son never protests. He knows that “It is good for me.” Similarly, a devotee is never disturbed when there is suffering given by Kr

Why should we change the quality of engagement of our mind ?

The mind is not to be killed. Mind or desire cannot be stopped, but to develop a desire to function for spiritual realization, the quality of engagement by the mind has to be changed. The mind is the pivot of the active sense organs, and as such if the quality of thinking, feeling and willing is changed, naturally the quality of actions by the instrumental senses will also change.

Srimad Bhagavatham, 2.1.17.

O Radha, O girl whose splendid braids are decorated with newly blossoming jasmine flowers, whose belt tinkles on broad hips, whose anklets tinkle, whose vine arms are splendid with bracelets, armlets, and other ornaments, and whose breasts are golden lotus-buds, when with my own eyes will I drink the nectar of seeing You?

Dearest Aindra prabhu,

Please accept our most humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

We, the members of the Festival of India in Poland, would like to express our extreme sorrow and lamentation over your untimely departure from this world. We know that the Lord has a plan for all His devotees, but nonetheless we are finding it most difficult to accept that you are no longer here.

For many of us, especially the ISKCON youth, you were a shining example of a true kirtaneer: one who relish

My dear devotees,
Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada! All glories to HG Aindra Prabhu!
My assistant called me from India, when I was on the way to the airport in Burma, and asked whether I heard about Aindra Prabhu. With the kind of tone in which he enquired, I thought of the worst, and it was true. Aindra had left us behind. I was shaken, shattered and shocked. I thought of flying to Vrndavan, but the arrangements could not be made in time. Unfortu

Hearing the news of Aindra Prabhu’s sudden departure was a great shock, and I could feel what a great loss it was for us all. He was a dear friend and well-wisher of all, and through his kirtana he gave shelter to devotees throughout the world. Ultimately, he gave protection and life to the whole planet.

I think of Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura, who preached vigorously in Bengal and fought against many deviant sects. Later, he became discouraged because the devi

God gives everything. So why independently… it's like piecemeal… it is like watering the leaves of the tree to make the tree grow, you go out with a tea kettle or something full of water, a bartan, a pitcher, a jug full of water and start watering each leaf.

And someone says, “What are you doing man?” He says, “I am watering this tree.” “That’s not how you do it! Just put water at one place on the roots and through the roots, the tree will carry water to every single leaf.”

So the root of existenc

Letter from Srila Prabhupada, December 11, 1975

"The Sankirtana devotees are very dear to Krishna. Because you are doing the field work of book distribution, Krishna has immediately recognized them as true servants. Just like during war time, a farm boy or ordinary clerk who goes to fight for his country on the front immediately becomes a national hero for his sincere effort. So Krishna immediately recognizes a preacher of Krishna Consciousness who takes all risk to deliver His message.

The cause of the material creation is described here very lucidly. The first cause is daiva, or the destiny of the conditioned soul. The material creation exists for the conditioned soul who wanted to become a false lord for sense enjoyment. One cannot trace out the history of when the conditioned soul first desired to lord it over material nature, but in Vedic literature we always find that the material creation is meant for the sense enjoyment of the conditioned soul. There is a nice verse whi

I worship Srila Prabhupada

I worship Srila Prabhupada who, when a young man stood up declaring, "I am God," roared back, "You are not God. You are a dog!"

I worship Srila Prabhupada who, at a meeting of influential Hindus in Japan, suddenly shouted, "Stop him!" in the middle of their Mayavadi guru's speech.

I worship Srila Prabhupada who, at a Gita Sammelan, in livid anger challenged the nationally reputed swamis assembled there, "Why are you cheating people in the name of Bhagavad-gita?"
