Once upon a time there was a painter who had just completed his course under disciple hood of a great painter. This young artist decided to assess his skills. He decided to give his best strokes on the canvass. He took 3 days and painted beautiful scenery.
He wanted people's opinion about his caliber and painting skills.

He put his creation at a busy street-crossing. And just down below a board which read-"Gentlemen, I h

Effective listening is more than simply avoiding the bad habit of interrupting others while they are speaking or finishing their sentences. It’s being content to listen to the entire thought of someone rather than waiting impatiently for your chance to respond.

In some ways, the way we fail to listen is symbolic of the way we live. We often treat communication as if it were a race. It’s almost like our goal is to have no

Compassion is a sympathetic feeling. It involves the willingness to put yourself in someone else’s shoes, to take the focus off yourself and to imagine what it’s like to be in someone else’s predicament, and simultaneously, to feel love for that person.

Compassion is the recognition that other people’s problems, their pain and frustrations, are every bit as real as our own---often far worse. In recognizing this fact and

Srila Prabhupada Quote

"Now we have got so many students and so many temples but I am fearful that if we expand too much in this way that we shall become weakened and gradually the whole thing will become lost. Just like milk. We may thin it more and more with water for cheating the customer, but in the end it will cease to be any longer milk. Better to boil the milk now very vigorously and make it thick and sweet, that is the best process. So let us concentrate on training our devotees very th

We can see this in the kitchen as oriental spices are being u

Srila Prabhupada’s Appearance Predicted in the Scriptures

By Demian Martins
Srila Prabhupada’s appearance and accomplishments are a turning point not only in Gaudiya Vaisnavism, but in the very history of human civilization, so it is not surprising that they were predicted many centuries ago. In several ancient religious traditions, the sacred scriptures usually include passages or whole sections dealing with predictions. Some of these passages are marked by a veiled language and are often interp

Scriptural Injunctions

(Compiled from notes on lectures of H. H. Mahavishnu Goswami)

Our beloved Guru Maharaja is always insisting for us to seriously study the scriptures, understand them and put them into practice. We have not taken up the study of the scriptures with seriousness because we do not realize the consequences of ignoring the scriptural injunctions. Recently I was listening to a very

A lady bought some bathing soaps from a shop. When she opened one of the packets, she found that it was empty. There was no soap in there; it was just an empty wrapper! She lodged a complaint against the manufacturer and got her claim. That being settled, there was a task before the management of the soap factory. How had this happened? How could they ensure that the incident did not occur again? They had suffered enoug

A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit with all their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what the other frogs wer

The beauty of *Vaishnavism* (Krishna-bhakti) is truly divine. There are numerous religions in this world . But the facility of direct God-realization does exist only in Vaishnavism . It is not a man-made religion .

Bhagavan Sri Krishna Himself established Vaishnavism . He was assisted by Lord Ananta, Vayu-deva and Rishis like Narada . Bhagavan and His celestial team have established several Vedic temples in  BhArat. Thes

There may be some difficulty in surrendering to the father of this body, for he has limited knowledge and power, but Krsna is not like an ordinary father.  Krsna is unlimited and has full knowledge, full power, full wealth, full beauty, full fame and full renunciation.  Shouldn't we consider ourselves lucky to go to such a father and enjoy His property?  Yet no one seems to care about this, and now everyone is making propaganda that there is no God.  Why do people not seek Him out?  The answer i

Sankirtan Stories

By Yadavendra Das

This morning, the second stop was a small shopping center with only two or three shops open for business. The question on my mind was whether to stop or not to stop. I decided to stop anyway. It was a Vietnamese area and from experience I know that Vietnamese people generally like to engage freely and liberally in the Sankirtan Movement of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. This is indeed a great credit to the Vietnamese people. As I entered the beauty shop the whole fami

Who am I?

Everyone tell their name if asked who are they. If "I" was the name then for any marriage or events I can send a note with my name on it instead of going there, isn’t it? Therefore its clear that I am not a name. My body responds to the calling of my name. After I go out of the body, my body does not move, it cannot feel the sense of touch, it does not respond if called. So, I am not this body.

As I am inside the body of a human I call myself as a human. An animal calls itself an animal.

Krishna - Jesus - Allah - Buddha are all same

How to understand our Vedas?

We are living in kali yuga. Kali yuga means the age of quarrel and hypocrisy. The reason for these quarrel and problems is man losing his good qualities like mercy, honesty, purity and discipline. If there is no mercy to any living entity, people start eating meat. If there is no discipline or regulation in mind and body, they start taking intoxicants. If there is no truth, gambling is performed or wealth is earned by wrong

So this material world is described in the Vedic literature as darkness. And actually it is darkness. Therefore we require the sunlight, the moonlight, the electric light. If it had not been darkness, then why so many light arrangements? Actually, it is darkness. Artificially, we made it light. Therefore Vedic injunction is that "Don't keep yourself in the darkness." Tamasi ma jyotir gama. "Go to the light." That light is the spiritual world. That is directly the effulgence, or bodily rays, of K

Envisaging Our Spiritual Existence

(Compiled from notes on lectures of H. H. Mahavishnu Goswami)

During his recent visit to Abudhabi, our beloved Guru Maharaja was emphasizing the importance of the last 18 verses of the second chapter of Srimad Bhagavad Gita. Maharaja was insisting that these verses should be recited before we go to bed in the night and again as soon as we get up, we should be recit
