Thought Of The Day

So everyone is anxiety in this material world, maya. So our Krsna consciousness movement is to take a person or all of them from this maya to Vaikuntha. That is the Krsna consciousness, to save the living entity from anxiety and bring him to the platform of no anxiety. That is the difference, from anxiety to no anxiety. That is the greatest gift to the human society. Everyone is full of anxiety because he is in this material world. He must be full of anxiety. So here the information is given, ma

Does the Devotees’ Personal Touch Make a Difference?

 by Bhakti-lata Dasi

Very often, the only link an inmate has with the outside world is his correspondence with the IPM devotees. Some are fortunate enough to have supportive family or friends, but most are not. I am realizing more and more how important the relationship the inmates develop with their devotee pen pal(s) is for them.

Why do we regard trees and plants as sacred?

The Lord, the life in us, pervades all living beings, be they plants or animals. Hence, they are all regarded as sacred. Human life on earth depends on plants and trees. They give us the vital factors that make life possible on earth: food, oxygen, clothing, shelter, medicines etc.Hence, in India, we are taught to regard trees and plants as sacred. Indians scriptures tell us to plant ten trees if, for any reason, we have to cut one. We are advised to use parts of trees and plants only as much as

Hare Krsna

Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

Vedic civilization is that brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha, sannyasa. You must be prepared, especially the higher castes, especially the brahmanas. The brahmanas must observe the four adhyatmika principle: brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha... Brahmana, they do not go even to the grhastha life. Remain brahmacari. But even he goes, only for twenty-five years.

Grihamedhi vs Grhastha :

Hare Krsna

Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

Simply living in a home with a husband/wife and children does not make one a Grhastha. A grihamedhi is one who lives externally in a Grhastha environment but whose goal of life is sense enjoyment.

A Grhastha lives a God centered life. He knows the ultimate goal of life but is not able to be completely renounced. A Grhastha is aware that the sense gratification permitted to him will eventually lead to misery and therefore

Following the Editorial Audit Trail

Srila-Prabhupada-Book.jpg

By Madhava Smullen

In the late 1990s, a BBT conference handling questions from translators sparked a renewed interest in the history of Srila Prabhupada’s books.

To give satisfactory answers, BBT staff found they often had to go back to early manuscripts, Prabhupada’s dictated tapes, or original Sanskrit or Bengali texts.

This wasn’t new to Govinda Madhava Dasa, who’d served with the BBT since 1980 and as North European production manager had overseen book production in forty languages.

Thought Of The Day

Here in this material world everyone is adhira, agitated, agitated by lusty desires. But in the spiritual world they are dhira. They are not agitated by lusty desires. This is spiritual world. So long we are agitated by the lusty desires, we must know that we are in the material world. That is the test.

Our original consciousness

Hare Krsna

Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

Krishna consciousness is our original consciousness because every living being is part and parcel of Krishna. Krishna has many expansions. They are called personal expansions and separated expansions. We living entities are His separated expansions. Although we are very intimately connected with Krishna, somehow or other we are now separated because of our contact with material nature. We have practically forgotten that

What are the symptoms of atma-nivedana ?

Hare Krsna

Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

To surrender everything to Krishna is called Atma-nivedana. The symptoms of Atma-nivedana are to become free from all selfish endeavour and to dovetail all endeavours for Krishna’s pleasure, just as apurchased cow does not endeavour for her own maintenance. One should also remain subordinate to Krishna’s will and surrender one’s independence to Him.

The Power of Chastity

Hare Krsna

Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila Prabhupada

Once, sage Vyasa went to Brahmaloka to get his doubts cleared on certain spiritual matters from Lord Brahma. While dwelling on a wide range of religious topics such as importance of austerities and various incarnations Lord Vishnu took to protect righteousness, Lord Brahma narrated a tale of a Brahmin woman who possessed divine powers on account of her chastity.
Lord Brahma said--'During ancient times there lived a Brahm
