I.THE CHALLENGE TO MARRIAGE AND FAMILY TODAY

hxsth.jpg

The Witherspoon Institute

Marriage – considered as a legally sanctioned union of one man and one woman – plays a vital role in preserving the common good and promoting the welfare of children. In virtually every known human society, the institution of marriage provides order and meaning to adult sexual relationships and, more fundamentally, furnishes the ideal context for the bearing and rearing of the young. The health of marriage is particularly i

As the Pandavas made their way from one holy tīrtha to another, they finally came to Badrikashrama in the Himalayan Mountains. It was a very scenic spot that could hardly be described in words. The flowers that bloomed there could not be found anywhere else in the world. One day, as Draupadi was gazing on the beautiful scenery, a strong wind arose and blew a thousand-petaled lotus flower into her lap. The flower had a celestial effulgence, a captivating aroma, and its beauty was unearthly. She

Question: Thank you prabhu for sharing the wonderful verse 11.20.27-28 from the SB.
I have a doubt here. I do have some faith in the narrations of HIS glories but yet the stage of being disgusted with material activities has not come about. Here it is being spoken of such people who feel disgusted and then try to leave them although there maybe some relapses. My position is worse prabhu. I am yet not disgusted with material activities. How can i change from here?

Dear Jeegnesh and Kaishori Sindhu dasi,

Please accept my blessings. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

As one of the chief guests at your auspicious vivaha yajna—your cherished marriage ceremony today—I have been asked to speak. The other day at the kirtan party held in your honor, I suggested that my esteemed godbrother, Bada Haridas Prabhu, be the main speaker because he and his wife Kosarupa dasi have enjoyed a successful marriage for 36 years. Later in the program, you, Kaishori, turned to me

Sri Syamananda Disappearance

2515181738?profile=original

Sri Syamananda, Srinivasa and Narottama Dasa Thakura are eternal associates of Sri Gaurasundara. For the purpose of preaching the holy message of Sri Caitanya all over the earth they appeared in this world.

Sri Syamananda Prabhu was born in Utkala. His father’s name was Sri Krsna Mandal. His mother’s name was Sri Durika. Sri Krsna Mandal had many sons and daughters who passed away before this son took birth. Because of this misfortune, Sri Krsna Mandal named the boy Dukhi.

After some time the b

On Saturday, April 1, I was fortunate to attend the annual "Hash Bash" -- a rally for the legalization of marijuana (misdirected rally -- sure!) -- where Deva Madhava Prabhu from the ISKCON Yipsalanti,
Michigan, temple had organized a full day of sitting harinama kirtan and book distribution in the middle of the University of Michigan campus at Ann Arbor, near a prominent street corner, a great location.

Ann Arbor is a historical place for ISKCON, because in that city Indradyumna Swami and sev

In spiritual life, we are all facing challenges. We are aiming at a very high goal but we do not want to approach it with fanaticism where we are just going to push ourselves into the most austere situation and try to maintain it. No, sometimes we have to take small steps but we should never take a step back! One should not go backward in spiritual life. Whenever one has accepted a level of higher commitment, one must maintain it!

Joan Fielder, also known as “Jamuna” by the devotees, had been visiting New Gokula farm on and off for around twenty years.

In the last few years she was a regular at the Bhakti tree in Newcastle where she loved to talk to the devotees, listen to kirtan and have nice prasadam.

At a recent Friday evening program, after listening to the kirtan and sitting to take her meal, she had an attack and was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Unfortunately, Jamuna, who was 87, passed away while in the ambulan

In spite of all our transcendental knowledge still, we are running out of time. Everyone gets caught like that. We are running out of time. A lot of time is spent in preparation for better times to come but for how long are we preparing!?

Then one day, from the preparation stage, we just go straight into the “run-out-of-time” stage. This is actually how things move along. Therefore one must be quite resolute in Krsna consciousness and say, “I’ll do it NOW! I’ll do something NOW! I’ll get seriou

BLESSED BY SPRING’S INSPIRATION and my poem, LISTENING FOR SPRING: Stepping outside this morning around sunrise was so lovely, enlivening. The “spring thing” feeling in the air, subtle, yet palpable, encouraging me with thoughts of possibilities and new beginnings. Cool temps stimulate, yet hint at approaching warmness. The sun seems especially bright after yesterday’s dark clouds and torrential downpours.

That special morning spring light shining off the dew, with new grass and other tiny exci

we have celebrated various appearance days of the different incarnations of the Lord. Most recently, it was of Lord Ramachandra, the embodiment of dharma. Each of our main books has an overriding theme. In the Bhagavad-gita, we find the dilemma of Arjuna. Arjuna who is somehow or other having a personal agenda and Krsna wants him to act according to his will and it takes the entire Gita for Arjuna to finally say, “Yes, I will do as you say.”

In the Ramayana, we find this endless dharma in so ma

“One who surrenders to Krishna can easily overcome Maya—not directly, but by Krishna’s mercy. We do not have the strength to fight Maya independently. Maya is a very powerful energy of Krishna’s. W

[Reposted from 3-24-2010] On Tuesday April 4th, in the USA we observed Ram Navami, or Lord Rama's holy appearance day anniversary. Although Lord Chaitanya is the combined form or Radha and Krishna, coming to give Krishna prema for the fallen souls of Kali-yuga, he also contains all other incarnations of God within him, including Lord Rama. Therefore, Lord Chaitanya is Universal. Anyone desiring to make spiritual advancement and increase their devotion toward any real incarnation of God can obta

When I first went to India, Lord Ramachandra was the first deity I ever saw because the first temple I went to was of Lord Ramachandra and that was my temple! It was a small round temple and later on, they renovated and made it into a big marble temple. Oh, I miss my small round temple; it was so nice; the deities were really close but now they are high up and far away.

Then, when I went to Benares, I picked up the “Sri Rama Jaya Rama” mantra from a temple. It was playing twenty-four hours a da
