Lord Krishna explains in the sacred text, Bhagavad-Gita, “Whatever action a great man performs, others will follow. And whatever standards he sets by exemplary acts, all the world pursues.” 

Yesterday in Washington, D.C., we saw the truth of this statement, and the terrible impact of the misguided thoughts, words, and actions of an influential and powerful man. 

Yet, each of us is great in our own fashion. We too, each of us, big and small, impact the world. We have that power.

Charity given out of duty, without expectation of return, at the proper time and place, and to a worthy person, is in the mode of goodness. (Bhagavad Gita 17:20)

Those who give such charity without the slightest inclination for any reciprocal return are those situated in sattva guna the mode of goodness. Such aspirants will offer danam at an auspicious place such as Kuruksetra where Lord Krishna spoke the Bhagavad-Gita or anywhere along the bank of the 20

It is said that the spiritual world is the tripad vibhuti (three-quarters of the manifestation) and the material world is ekepad vibhuti (one-quarter of the manifestation). And it is said that only one-tenth of the living entities are living in the material world whereas nine-tenths are in the spiritual world. So there are many more devotees who are eternally engaged in loving exchanges with Krsna. In the spiritual world, Krsna is playing His flute and causing the peacocks to dance as a result.

We were outside and kept our distance. We walked the trails, or rather "crunched" along, over the surface of icy snow. We made our noise and made it clear, with the sound of our footsteps, that we were present. There could not be louder footsteps even if we tried.

Although 2020 has been a tough year for us all, some have discovered silver linings amidst the challenges. When ISKCON New Vrindaban, West Virginia went into a two-week lockdown on Thanksgiving Day to keep the community safe, two women from opposite sides of the world found themselves in an unexpected quarantine. However the experience turned out to be a blissful one, as they learned new skills, nourished their spiritual lives, and forged a strong friendship.
