Attitude of a Vishnava

First we must understand what humbleness is because different people have different understanding of what constitutes humbleness. Someone may say, humbleness means someone speaks very sweetly and always bows down with folded hands. This is the external application of humbleness. But there is internal realization of humbleness. Shiksha GURU

We should not take the word “Shiksha GURU” lightly. It seems that people have started thinking that whoever is instructing is a “shiksha GURU” . According to ISKCON’s regulations, Shiksha GURU is a very big responsibility. It is not that you give two classes & You become a shiksha GURU. Shiksha GURU is not cheap term. Radha Rani Ki Jai...

Whatever happened, it happened for good.
Whatever is happening, is happening for good.
Whatever that will happen, it will be for good.
What have you lost for which you cry?
What did you bring with you, which you have lost?
What did you produce, which has destroyed?
You did not bring anything when you were born.
Whatever you have, you have received from Him.
Whatever you will give, you will give to Him.
You came empty handed and

you will go the same way.

Whatever is yours today was somebody else’s y

In the evening, after a blissful day of book distribution in New Orleans's French Quarter, Raya Nitai Prabhu, Bhakta Steve and I were preparing to go on harinam. After we blew a conchshell to signify the beginning of harinam, a tall skinny man with a goatee, French beret, and long hair walked through a black gate from a dimly lit ally and approached us.

He asked, " Are you Hare Krishnas?"

We replied, "Yes."

He smiled and said, "That's wonderful! Tonight is the anniverssary of our head pr

The Mystery of Deity Worship

The Deity worship process is very mysterious. It is Krishna's mercy for His devotees. Krishna agrees to appear in a form the devotees can see and serve with their material senses. A very advanced devotee can see Krishna and Krishna's energy working everywhere. He sees everything in relation to Krishna. But in the beginning this spiritual vision is not possible. We can not see Krishna's spiritual form with our material eyes. But by Krishna's mercy He agrees to take the form of what appears to us

Srila Prabhupada came to lecture at Upsala University in Sweden. After the lecture a student raised his hand and said, "In his book Siddhartha, Hermeann Hesse says......" and he went on talking for sometime. Prabhupada let him speak and when he was finished, Prabhupada said,"Who is Hermann Hesse ?" At that time Hermann Hesse was popular. If you didn't know who Hermann Hesse was, you were nobody.

The student replied, "You don't know who Hermann Hesse is? He is the author of this and that."

Stop blaming others

Blaming has become extremely common in our culture. On a personal level, it has led us to believe that we are never completely responsible for our own actions, problems, or happiness. When we are in the habit of blaming others, we will blame others for our anger, frustration, depression, stress, and unhappiness.

In terms of personal happiness, you cannot be peaceful while at the same time blaming others. Surely there are times when other people and/or circumstances contribute t

Complete independence of the Lord

The Personality of Godhead, or the Paramesvara Parabrahman, according to the srutis, has nothing to do. He has no equal. Nor does anyone excel Him. He has unlimited potencies, and His every action is carried out systematically in His natural and perfect ways. Thus the Supreme Personality of Godhead is full in Himself, and He has nothing to accept from anyone else, including the great demigods like Brahma. Others ask for the favor of the goddess of fortune, and despite such prayers she declines t

Training and culture

Srila Prabhupada's final evening darsana, although well attended, had a more subdued tone to it this evening. Srila Prabhupada was relaxed, allowing the pace of conversation to be dictated by the inquisitiveness of his guests, and content to simply chant japa when there were no questions.

Navayauvana prabhu raised the point that people sometimes have the idea that first they must reach a materially comfortable position before they can practice Krsna consciousness. "On the mate

Old age symptoms

As we prepared to go Srila Prabhupada went over some of the details of how to make his toothpaste with Harikesa, who had been the first to make it for him. Harikesa laughed at the suggestion that they use the bitter nim powder instead of calcium carbonate. He didn't think anyone would be able to tolerate the taste.

I reminded Srila Prabhupada of what he had said in London about his toothpaste. "You said your teeth were so rotten they want to fall out, but the toothpaste won't allo
