1. The demon Arista then came to the cowherd village. Appearing in the form of a bull with a large hump, he made the earth tremble as he tore it apart with his hooves.

2. Aristasura bellowed very harshly and pawed the ground. With his tail raised and his eyes glaring, he began to tear up the embankments with the tips of his horns.

3. Clouds hovered about sharp-horned Aristasura’s hump, mistaking

Worship The highest Authority

Worship The highest Authority

Here the point is that in any religion there is a conception of worshiping God or symbol of God. Even in Jain philosophy they also worship Mahavira. In Buddha philosophy they worship Lord Buddha. In India there is Jainism. That is almost like Buddhism. They have got also exactly the same process of worship. Temples they have got. Big, nice, costly temples they have got. And they come to see, visit the temple, offer their worshipful offerings, flowers, fruits, everyt

Sadhu Symptoms

September 4th, 1976

Later in the morning Harikesa Swami and I sat with Srila Prabhupada in his darsana room. He was discussing Srimad-Bhagavatam verse 3.25.21. Harikesa read it out:

titiksavah karunikah suhrdah sarva-dehinam
ajata-satravah santah sadhavah sadhu-bhusanah

"The symptoms of a sadhu are that he is tolerant, merciful, and friendly to all living entities. He has no enemies, he is peaceful, he abides by the scriptures, and all his characteristics are sublime."

Remembering Srila Prabhupada - Personal

Personal

During massage I decided to ask Srila Prabhupada about an odd burn mark on the inside of the top of his thigh. Prabhupada smiled and told me how he got it: when he was about three years old he was playing alone in a back alley with a box of matches. He was pulling out the matchsticks and rubbing the colored portion on the side of the box. Not knowing they were alight he was dropping them in his lap. Suddenly, the thin cotton dhoti he was wearing burst into flames. He stood in the alley s

Introduction

Any man who has genuine devotion to the Lord has all the good qualities which are found in godly persons or in the demigods, whereas the nondevotee, however advanced he may be in material qualifications by education and culture, lacks in godly qualities.

The case of Arjuna

As such, Arjuna, just after seeing his kinsmen, friends and relatives on the battlefield, was at once overwhelmed by compassion for them who had so decided to fight amongst themselves. As far as his soldiers were con

GURU

GURU

2514801959?profile=original

Such is the degree of reverence a devotee has for his Guru, that is reflected in the following doha of Saint Kabir :

Guru Gobind donon khade, Ka ke lagoon paayen,
Balihari Guru aapne, Jis Gobind diyo milaye.

Guru and Gobind (God) are both objects of reverence and worthy of worship but, Kabir puts ‘Guru’ at a higher pedestal than God. He says if both God and Guru condescend to give him ‘Darshan’ together, he would first touch the lotus feet of his ‘Guru’ before seeking blessings from the Lord, b

Second offense

September 2nd, 1976

On the morning walk an English boy, Ravi dasa, who just received second initiation, raised a question about the second offence in chanting, which states that we should not equate the name of the demigods with Krsna's. He asked, "So how are we to understand the name of the spiritual master? In kirtana when we chant the name of the spiritual master, is that as spiritually potent?"

Lokanatha Swami attempted to answer first, explaining that the spiritual master's posi

We Can Rise Above It?

The modes of material nature in this way are afflicting us. But we are not helpless in the matter. The modes of material nature may create waves for us, and these waves comes through our consciousness - due to our conditioning and these influences as I described earlier a little bit in astrological terms. So we can clearly see that they are there, but we can rise above it, and that is what we can do by taking shelter.

So the waves that are there drag us along, but
