When, where and how did you come into contact with the Hare Krishna Movement?

1971 Los Angeles/ devottee came to my door delivered a Back to Godhead Magazine. Then I attended Gaur Pournima in San Franscisco. After visiting the temple for the third week I listened to a Bhagavad-gita class, that night I asked if I could move in the temple then never looked back!

Both my wonderful husband (Gunarnava das) and myself think breath and exist on the mercy Srila Prabhupada gave and continues to give us. We both had the causeless mercy of previously serving in the holy dham of Vrindavan from 1971-1986. Vrindavan is where our hearts are but we now serve in separation. In the last 10 years we trained in various Counselling models to develop more sensitive communication skill. In the last 4 years we started a Registered Charity called BBA Inc. (Bhaktivedanta Benevolent Association). BBA Inc owns a Govinda's Cafe located in one of the most materially beautiful spots on the planet. However suffering is not excluded anywhere on this planet. We therefore share Krishna Consciousness with a contemporary flavor. We work in the community & supply 7 inter-agencies with Prasadam weekly. We deliver charitable counselling at the local Neighborhood Centre.In our constitution our counselling and all our actives are based on Bhakti and Vedic knowledge (this has been endorsed by State Government). We have an interactive philosophical forum Monday evenings - attempting to create the personal, warm environment we experienced when first coming to Krishna Consciousness. We run a 'Work for the Dole (With a Difference)" activity funded by State Government, giving long termed unemployed a chance to experience an alternative environment - while serving at Govinda's Cafe! We build in personal development in their program, again looking at the bigger picture of life. Gunarnava Prabhu works weekly in the 3 local courts. Now comes my pitch! My good husband's body is almost 60yrs old and mine 57 - we have served heart & soul developing this project to this level. We know need a special soul or couple to work with us grass roots in this exciting service by managing and developing the activities of Govinda's Cafe so we progress the work we do in the community.
