Worship by pretenders

In my life I have come across many people which includes members of my family and friends who offer paryers to Krishna (God) but are extremely occupied with making money or cheating people financially. How do we deal with such people and what is the fate of such people?

    Hare Krishna!

In the Vedic scriptures, it is explained that although some people may externally appear to be religious or offer prayers to God, their true intentions and actions may not align with their words. Such individuals who are engaged in dishonest practices and solely focused on material gain are considered to be in a state of ignorance.

In the Bhagavad Gita (16.19-20), Lord Krishna describes the qualities of those in the mode of ignorance. He states that they are driven by desires, anger, and ignorance, and their actions are based on delusion. They are attached to the material world and engage in sinful activities. Their minds are clouded by illusion, and they do not understand the consequences of their actions.

It is important for us to remember that everyone is on their own spiritual journey, and it is not our place to judge or condemn others. Instead, we should focus on our own spiritual growth and set a positive example for others. We can try to inspire them by living a life of integrity, honesty, and compassion.

Additionally, we can pray for their well-being and spiritual upliftment. Just as Lord Krishna is all-merciful, He can bestow His mercy upon anyone, regardless of their current situation. By sincerely praying for their spiritual awakening and offering our good wishes, we can contribute positively to their spiritual progress.

To illustrate this point, there is a story from the Srimad Bhagavatam about Ajamila. Ajamila was a sinful person who engaged in various immoral activities. However, at the time of death, he inadvertently called out the name of his son, Narayana, which is another name for Lord Vishnu. Due to this accidental utterance, the messengers of Lord Vishnu came to rescue Ajamila from the clutches of death. This incident shows the power of the holy name and the mercy of the Lord, even for those who have led a sinful life.

In conclusion, we should not be discouraged or judgmental towards those who offer prayers but engage in dishonest practices. Instead, we should focus on our own spiritual growth, set a positive example, and sincerely pray for their well-being and spiritual upliftment. Just as the Lord is all-merciful, He can bestow His mercy upon anyone, even those who are currently engaged in sinful activities. Let us remember that everyone has the potential to change and grow spiritually with the grace of the Lord.
