If you want to know answers to the following questions, you should read this book:
1) Who am I ?
2) Why do I suffer ?
3) What is the purpose of life ?
4) Who is God ?
5) What is the way in which to reach God ?
6) How should I lead my life ?
This list is only inclusive, it is not exhaustive. THere are a lot of people whose lives have changed by reading Bhagavad Gita As It Is, as mataji rightly mentioned.
Spiritually, it is the beginning of the journey towards Krsna - it is considered graduation, Srimad Bhagawatam is Post Graduate studies and Chaitanya Charitamrta is PhD. To begin your spiritual education, you should read Gita.
