Krishna doesnt always have to appear to punish the sinners , mayadevi does it on its own one wipe of mayadevi and the asuric men are punished by nature itself in a large scale thrugh natural disasters like floods, hurricane, drought, earthquake etc .all this keeps going on and when time ones when one big demon like hiranya kashyapu or ravana or kamsa is troubling the entire world krishna incarnates on earth to reduce the burden on earth otherwise mayadevi  (durgadevi) is able enough to do this .

    Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

There is no mismatch, it simply means that you have not understood. Anywhere it is written in the scriptures that in the other yugas, the world was not "dukhalyam ashashwatam". That 3 types of miseries - adidaivik, adibhautik... were not happening to people in other yugas? Maybe not natural disasters, but that does not mean that there was no misery. One after the other, it keeps on happening.

Whenever drought or flood happened in earlier yugas, the king was blamed for not being pious enough, thats why the demigods are putting us through so much misery. Does that mean that each and every single king in the other yugas was a maha bhagawata? Think about it and read Srimad Bhagawatam - you will get the answers.

  • It is happening only by the exploiting nature of the Jivas...bcoz we want to enjoy this material nature maximum extent in a wrong way.  Srila Bhakthi Siddhanta Saraswathi Thakur told this material world is not fit place for any gentle men to live..  yes, regarding devotees, it is good lesson for us to intensify our sadhana, humility, accountability to authorities...etc vaishnave qualities to go back to our original place.  For devotees, it is good time to feel insecure and increasing our dependency on Lord krishna.... hare krihsna

  • Hare Krishna Prabhuji,

    Please Accept My Humble Obeisances.

Natural calamities are a display of an overwhelming power immensely and fearfully greater than the human. They jolt us out of our complacent routines and impel us to think: Why do such natural disasters occur? What should we do at such times?

According to the great spiritual traditions of the world, we are answerable to God for all our actions. The Vedic texts of India give the most cogent and coherent understanding of this system of cosmic accountability. Known as the law of karma, this universal, infallible law of action-reaction gives all of us our due pleasures and pains according to our actions, whether right or wrong. The Vedic shastras therefore contain prescriptions and proscriptions to guide us in our actions.

The Vedic scriptures inform us that, during our troubled journey through this material world, we have gone through millions of lives. Therefore rather than being shocked at seeing so many deaths, we can soberly remember that we have ourselves undergone the trauma of death thousands of times. And the same ordeal awaits us again in the not-too-distant future. So the Bhagavad-gita (13.8-12) urges all intelligent persons to recognize the inevitable, inescapable evils of birth, old age, disease and death that haunt all life in this world. The Gita further urges us to re-awaken our dormant spiritual natures by living in devotion to God. Thus we can detach ourselves from material things which will be snatched away at the time of death and attach ourselves to God, with whom we will be eternally united after death.

You rightly mentioned there are thousands of devotees chanting but this number is like a small drop in the ocean of billions of conditioned living entities who are not taking shelter of the Holy Name owing to their being situated in the mode of ignorance.  We are very fortunate since we possess this transcendental knowledge of the Absolute Truth. Thus, we must strive to deliver these jivas from the entanglement of the material veil of ignorance and pass on this nectar of the Holy Name to them. Further, the Vedic scriptural injunctions emphatically assert that the sufferings of this world are a pointer to, a reminder of, our eternal existence. A fever impels us to take medicine to cure ourselves. The heat of the fire causes us to instantly withdraw our finger and thus save it from being burnt. Similarly, the sufferings of this world impel us to redirect our hopes of shelter and happiness from this temporary material world to the eternal spiritual world. The intelligent course of action therefore is to prepare to return back to our home, the spiritual world.

    Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

There are thousands of devotees across the world who are chanting the holy names of the lord, but at the same time, there are millions of non devotees across the world who are committing unmentionable crimes. This isthe age of Kali, Kali literally means "Clash". So there are different clashes happening everywhere in the world, within nations, within societies, within communities, families and even within oneself.

Apart from that, so many wrong doings are happening, where we are going against nature, abusing nature. Therefore, nature do its course corrections. She will remind us our limits.

On Saturday, I had opportunity to ask HH Bhanu Swamy Maharaj about this earthquake and specifically, how should we react to such situations. What I remember from his answer is that - this is a way for us to learn that everything in the material world is temporary and full of misery. There will be one disaster after the other - to remind us of the temporary nature of everything around us, so that we can become detached and do our sadhana enough to go back to Godhead.
