In Vedic teachings like the Srimad Bhagavatam, stealing a brāhmaṇa’s or sacred property is called worse than poison because physical poison harms only the body, while such actions are believed to destroy one’s spiritual life and karma. The comparison with the halāhala poison drunk by Shiva is meant to emphasize the grave sin of abusing sacred trust and resources dedicated to God or dharma.
A Brahmana is he who has the knowledge of god, he is on the path of spiritual life.
So by stealing the their property which they use in service of lord, and hindering their spiritual life is detrimental.
As we have heard and stories and read in strasts , Krishna protects his devotees and so if you do harm to them (by stealing their property) he will punish you! Srila Prabhupada has said that " just like one can tolerate heat on his head but not on his feet , like that krishna can excuse the offense towards him but never one towards his devotees " so hurting Brahmana is poison for one's spiritual as well as material life.
As we find in krishna leela when krishna saved a large lizard from a well, who was king nrga who got a lizards body only because of a mistake due to which the Brahmana thought that he is taking away what was given to them (means stealing their property) and thus even after being very pious and a big donar, he got a lizard's body.
