You are right. Brahmans need to be saatvic and tolerant.However; truly these qualities exist fully only in our dear lord.It is ONLY his mercy which can make anyone tolerant and sattvic.In practice you will find that true devotees of lord ( not necessarily brahmanas)are very patient and tolerant, to the extent that people sometimes mistake their humilty for weakness or indecisiveness.

Usually brahmans are very learned and no offense to any learned brahman or sages, but this quality also sometimes makes some of them proud.The brahmanas just like us are all jivas you see, floating as the marginal potency of lord. Without lords protection we can anytime develop 'bad qualities'.

The only time anger is said to be justified, is when someone deliberately insults or causes harm to your guru or the supreme lord.

Remember, there is a saying which says if you point out one finger, three point back.You can try it by your hand pointing a finger outwards and you will actually see 3 pointing back. The reason is actually that the hurt done to the other comes back to you, and also comes along with it, the curse from the person's Guru and the lord who have been pained to see their shishya's/devotee's pain.

Hare Krishna Anisha Prabhu, please accept my humble obeisances! all glories to Srila Prabhupada!

For example, Narada Muni saw two intoxicated sons of Kuvera and they did not show a respect to him. But Narada Muni was not hurt at all. He could go further and do not worry. But if he would so then those sons of Kuvera would offense other great personalities also. in this way fully degrade and go to hell.

In order to stop their proud mood and to give to them a lesson Narada Muni cursed them. and they took birth as trees. But trees in the yard of Nanda Maharaja and after suffering for thousands of years they regretted their mistake and fully purified from their sins. and were able to see Krishna lila.

In this way Brahmanas curse in order to give a lesson and to make a person intelligent.
