    Hare KRsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

Srila Prabhupada's guru instructed him to write in the English language. Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Maharaj has written Brahma Samhita and some other books in English. If you notice, the english used is very difficult. When the books are written in Bengali, it is very simple to understand. The reason being that SBSSG felt that India being not independent at that time, British would look down on Indians. Thats why he wrote in tough english to let them know Indians also know english and better than them. There were a lot of sahajiyas at that time, there was a school of thought who would pretend they have got radha bhaav and men would wear sarees and dance like gopis. All this was not coming naturally to them, they thought this was a sign of progress and most were pretending. SBSSG was busy setting those things right.

If you study the gaudiya vaishnav history, you will find it has been quite a journey and there were so many challenges in earlier times.

As you may know, Srila Prabhupada is the empowered senapati bhakta. Therefore, when your friend is asking why Srila Prabhupada wrote the books and not his guru, you can counter question, why not Srila Prabhupada. Each guru has a guru. So this question is never ending. As per time, place and circumstance and instruction of immediate guru maharaj, our acharyas have functioned and contributed to the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition.

Regarding whether SP has added his emotions while translating the Gita, what is the garauntee that his guru would not have done the same? Pls ask your friend one question - so many people have translated gita over the ages, how many of them have been able to convert drug addicts into devotees by simply reading their commentary on the gita? There are so many stories of people becoming devotees simply by reading Srila Prabhupada's translation of the Gita.

I hope I have made some sense to you prabhu.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

    Radha Rasamayi DD
