why a child dies in mother's womb?

My Dearest and Beloved Devotees,
Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila Prabhupada,

I want to know,

If a child dies in mother's womb OR just after 2/3 days when it is born, is this for the child's past karma? Or this is for Mother's past karma?

if it is the child's past karma, then why Krishna gives him a birth when the child doesn't even know the pain/ suffering of it's body??

I am eagerfully waiting for the reply, Thank you very much in advance and forgive me if i hurt any of my dearest devotees.

My best regards ever,

why a child dies in mother's womb?

    • Dear Sukeshini,

I think the question got answered already. It certainly could be expanded but I think the main point is there, as quoted from the SB 3rd Canto, in my first response.

  • Child dies in womb due to its own karma.

Mother suffers the pain of separation from the child due to her own karma.

Child is conscious and aware of pain while in the womb. It suffers and prays in the womb - refer to 3 canto, 31st chapter of srimad bhagavatam.

  • It is not that a just born baby does not feel pain. He/She does feel pain.

The reason of child dying in mother's womb or just few days after the birth is the fault of both mother as well as child. It is the past bad karma of both child and mother that lead to untimely death of the child.

  • Dear Radhe Goswami, pamho. AgtSP!

In the 3rd Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam the sufferings of the embryo in the womb are described.

"Bitten again and again all over the body by the hungry worms in the abdomen itself, the child suffers terrible agony because of his tenderness. He thus becomes unconscious moment after moment because of the terrible condition. Owing to the mother’s eating bitter, pungent foodstuffs, or food which is too salty or too sour, the body of the child incessantly suffers pains which are almost intolerable. Placed within the amnion and covered outside by the intestines, the child remains lying on one side of the abdomen, his head turned towards his belly and his back and neck arched like a bow. The child thus remains just like a bird in a cage, without freedom of movement. At that time, if the child is fortunate, he can remember all the troubles of his past one hundred births, and he grieves wretchedly. What is the possibility of peace of mind in that condition?" (SB.3.31.6-9)

So, the jiva is (can be) to some degree conscious in the womb and can even remember past sinful activities. Elswhere it is also described that the soul is in touch with the Supersoul but loses the connection by the birth process (trauma). As far as I understand karma, it is the karma of both. These souls facilitate each others karmic reactions. The mother might need to suffer from loosing a child because she caused a new born death, and perhaps the child killed a new born in it's previous life, and now needs to experience the victims role.

    Sincerely,

    Keshava Madhava das
