There many devotees seen in ISKCON temples who wear White dress when some of them wear Safron colored dress. what is the reason for this.

I've seen devotees who live in the temple and wear saffron clothes and later take up the white dress of a grihasta (sort of in preparation). An old friend used to wear saffron clothes for a long time, then suddenly he started wearing white clothes, and a few months later he went to India and got married.
Is this an offense or are brahmacharis allowed to later on become a grihasta?
