-The quality of chanting holy names depends on mind occupation and/or love for Lord, not when and where you chant.
-Chanting in association of devotees is recommended for kanishta and madyama adhikari.
-Somebody chant because he promised to his Guru, somebody because its daily program or routine, somebody for purification, somebody for life problems. Anyway, people usually chant for their benefit or benefit of others, but almost nobody chant for exclusive pleasure of the Lord.
Hare Krsna PRabhuji,
PAMHO.
So nice to note you are chanting 16 rounds.
There are ways to control the mind - mainly abhyas and vairag (practise and renunciation). There are japa tonic ppts and there are lectures on how to chant - you can see HG Mahatma prabhuji's lectures. It will help.
Basically, early morning time is the best time. Chant with concentration and try to chant all 16 in one go - it is best.

Hare Krsna prabhu,
My obeisances to all devotees, guru and gauranga.
Welcome to hare krsna movement prabhu.
So happy to hear that you are chanting 16 rounds of maha mantra already. You are very fortunate to be able to do 16 rounds at this early stage. Its all krsna’s grace as you’ve said. Keep up the rounds.
To be distracted during chanting is a common problem for both beginners, sadhakas who have been in KC for few years and also senior devotees. We all struggle to overcome the ‘tree hopping monkey’ mind especially during chanting.

TRANSLATION
From whatever and wherever the mind wanders due to its flickering and unsteady nature, one must certainly withdraw it and bring it back under the control of the Self.
Prabupada writes: In transcendental sense happiness, the senses are engaged in the service of Hṛṣīkeśa or the supreme owner of the senses-Kṛṣṇa. Serving Kṛṣṇa with purified senses is called Kṛṣṇa consciousness. That is the way of bringing the senses under full control. What is more, that is the highest perfection of yoga practice.
When the mind wanders, over time you will see that the mind takes us on a ride to thoughts which are not really useful. It could be like “what will I do at work today?”, “what will I eat today?”, “what shows should I watch?”, etc etc… I can understand your frustration on not being able to concentrate during japa. If you see my posts from few weeks ago, you will see that I struggle through the same thing and like others who adviced me, I am advicing you the same. We have to have faith in krsna and do our best to concentrate on His Holy names. There is no other easy fix to attentive japa prabhu. Keep chanting your 16 rounds and try to concentrate on one round at a time (which is what I am trying to do now). Krsna sees your sincerity and determination and will give you the knowledge and guidance to come to Him.
Please pray for me to be able to chant his names. Krsna bestows mercy on a person who is favoured by devotees. Keep me in your prayers.
Chant and be happy.
Srila prabhupada ki jai..

Hare Krishna
I have found youtube vedios with images of the Lord which keeps changing and somewhat helps focus my mind on the Lord while chanting as I look at the beautiful changing images of Krishna.
your servant
thaks for ur reaponse and advise jai prabhupada
"Krishna give me focus so that I can chant your holy names with clarity."
Focus on the act of love. Chanting is a way or appreciating Krishna, of praising him, and showing him love. If you make this your goal, chanting will be more effective.
