what is Adarsh, Adarshwadi ?

Hare Krsna !!!

PAMHO

All glories to Guru and Gauranga !!!

My question is that, does doing Puja (Devotional activities) or believing in God make people adarshwadi? What is being adarshwadi? what does in actual it means?

Does Adarshwadi means the people who are principle centered life living? But there are so many athiests also who are living principle centered life.?

  • Hare Krishna Mata ji.,

I want to put my opinion on this question out. If I am allowed to do. I feel its an important question. I maybe wrong. If I am wrong I hope all will excuse me. I am a woman , I maybe having a little less brain when compared to all males. But I am also a devotee of Lord Sri Krishna. I want to express my opinion on this topic. If there is any mistake Please kindly excuse thinking me to be a neophyte and a learner.

Atheist are people who don't believe in the existence of God right? but even being atheist they believe in something....they believe in themselves.  They  believe in their body and ability....  They say everything is in their hands. If they do good  karma they will surely get good results.

Yes.. certainly they do all good activities , and  lead a principled life...becoz they understood the Karma theory very well. ( Just Like the Buddhists) ..

But the thing is ....when they feel they are responsible for their actions and do work accordingly they indeed do all good karmas only but they are entangled with the bodily concept of being.

Becoz of being in the false ego that. I am whole and sole responsible for anything good karma or bad karma.. They fall in the pit of bodily consciousness and false ego.  The get attached to the body and forgetting that the cause of all causes is the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

They do good works but alas!!!! all are fruitive works..That is all are result oriented works. Like They get attached to the results of their works. I do good......>> I shall get good in return.. WITH THIS CONCEPT THEY DO WORK.

They work for the body.  All works done for self improvement ( for money, health , wealth.. and personal growth) all done with one chief idea in them......That is they are body this false identification which is only the cause of repeated birth and deaths.

But ya they do good karma they can go  ENJOY HEAVEN for a while until the results of good karmas are exhausted ... and fall back to earth.

The one who realizes that Lord Sri Krishna is the primary cause of all causes.  He questions himselves...... ""WHO AM I? WHY HAVE I TAKEN BIRTH? WHAT IS THE  ULTIMATE GOAL OF LIFE?"

Until these questions prop in the mind.. the Soul ( jiva) thinks he is the body. and keeps on working for satisfying his bodily needs. He does good karma thinking the karma will return back and he will enjoy the results.

This false ego makes him one they completely self- centered /selfish.

This makes him go away from the real Ultimate truth ...A SOUL COMES TO EARTH ONLY TO FIND HIS WAY BACK TO GODHEAD. BASIC QUESTION WHO AM I? WHY I AM HERE ? what is my goal..... IS EATING, SLEEPING, MATING AND DEFENDING ONLY are only for which I am living? EVEN ANIMALS DO THIS. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ME AND AN ANIMAL.

What is the purpose of my life????

He understands that he is not the body and he is soul. Now after that he understands that.....all in the material world is temporary and  has beginning and an ending.

Everything material which is seen thru ur naked eyes in this material world is a combination of atoms and the all are combinations of Panchabhootas. ( air, water, fire, earth and ether).

all annihilate, end in the DUST.  FROM DUST ( EARTH) we have come into earth  and into which we mix. Then this bodily concept is lost.

Once you lose the idea that You are body you come to conclusion that..you , me brids , tree stone.... all moveable and immovable things are all going to end up in a pile of dust when the degrade.

Then  WHO AM I???? ARE U THIS BODY? NOPE YOU ARE a SOUL. THEN YOU SEE THAT ALL SOULS ARE EQUAL TO YOU.

YOU WILL LOSE DIFFERENTIATING BETWEEN MALE AND FEMALE, YOUNG AND OLD. TREE AND BIRD, ANIMAL AND HUMAN

YOU WILL SEE URSELVES AS SOUL AND EVEN REALIZE ALL ARE SOULS.

Please be clear on this. Then only he comes to the idea that...He along with all the souls is a part and parcel of supersoul.

A person who knows this...He is self realized and He is only called a Adarshwadi.

Now that person works for the welfare of all beings without expecting anything in return.

DID U OBSERVE THAT ATHEIST WAS LIVING A PRINCIPLED LIFE BUT>>> WAS DOING GOOD TO SOCIETY ALSO BUT ALL HIS ACTIVITY HE IS ONLY SELF - CENTERED BECOZ>> HE, .. ALL THE TIME WHILE DOING GOOD KARMA ALWAYS EXPECTED THAT SOMETHING GOOD WILL HAPPEN TO HIM IF HE DOES GOOD TO OTHERS.

THIS IS SELFISH FRUITIVE WORKS THOUGH GOOD KARMA..

There is no realization of SELF IN THIS WORK.

JuST DOING WORK FOR GETTING GOOD RESULTS IN RETURN.

THIS TYPE OF PEOPLE HOW THEY CAN BE CALLED ADARSHWAADI?

So conclude a ritualistic person doing pooja also will not be called adarshawaadi until he is realizes that he is a soul and part of supreme Lord Sri Krishna. Until then his pooja which is for selfish interest like ( money , health wealth..) all are merely for his own material gain .....but nothing spiritual in it.

Please read the conversation between JAda bharata and Raghugana.. and also conversation between Narad muni and Prachanibarhi.. STORIES FROM SRIMAD BHAGWATAM

    For further study.

King Pranchanibarhi was a great king he did all good karmas he did many many many sacrifices .. yet all were self centered all fruitive activites. He is not called a adarshwaadi.

Narad muni ji takes pity on Prachanibarhi and gives instructions to him about how to do a sacrifice. What is the main aim in doing a sacrifice.

main aim of any sacrifice, pooja or any devotional activities is only realizing the Supreme personality of God head who is the bramhan( sarva Vyaapi) who is the parmathma( present in all creatures) who is the supreme personality Vasudeva son of Vasudeva and Devaki.

Rest all pooja and sacrifice and all good principled life all are self oriented and are result oriented works....which can only take u to heaven which is also temporary, and you will fall from that heaven also when the result of the good karmas get exhausted.  You may get a good results in this life and u may get a good birth. But you cannot be adarshawaadi to anyone as u have never done any selfless deed.

SB 3.32.1  The Personality of Godhead said: The person who lives in the center of household life derives material benefits by performing religious rituals, and thereby he fulfills his desire for economic development and sense gratification. Again and again he acts the same way.
SB 3.32.2  Such persons are ever bereft of devotional service due to being too attached to sense gratification, and therefore, although they perform various kinds of sacrifices and take great vows to satisfy the demigods and forefathers, they are not interested in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, devotional service.
SB 3.32.3  Such materialistic persons, attracted by sense gratification and devoted to the forefathers and demigods, can be elevated to the moon, where they drink an extract of the soma plant. They again return to this planet.

Finally...to conclude.. people who do religious activities for personal gain are not called adarshawaadi. Neither people who lead a principled life without believing in Supreme Personality of Godhead are called.. Adarshwaadi.

Adarshwaadi are those who Vaishnava saints who realized the cause of their birth and worked for the welfare of benefit of humanity are only called ADARSHWAADI

Becoz....these Vaishnavas not only realized the importance of their human birth they also made 1000's realize the value of HUMAN BIRTH.

EXAMPLES of Adarshwaadi are:-- Narad Muni ji, Bharat Maharaj ji, Rishab dev ji, Prithu Maharaj ji.,Srila Prabhupada Ji, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Ji , Haridas Thakur ji, and several other Vaishnava saints. who worked selflessly for the humanity.

    Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

Adarshwadi means a principled person. It means someone who stands for his principles, come what may.

Doing puja or believing in God is a pious person - a dharmisht - a dharmic person.

Athletes are disciplined people, not principled. To give an example of adarshwadi with religious overtones, the name comes to my mind is Anna Hazare.

I hope I have been able to explain the hindi.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

    • Hare Krishna,

Mata Ji,I somehow dont agree with the statement of athletes not being principled..Athletes like Sachin,Virat,Dravid are principled as they didnt indulge into any betting of fixing, while on the other hand we have umpteen examples of unprincipled athletes taking dope and accepting huge chunk of money for fixing. One has to be disciplined and principled to be a success in life.

        Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

        PAMHO.

Agree with you - athletes can be principled also. Thats not what I meant. What I meant was - athlete is known for being disciplined. Being principled or not is a personal trait, not a requirement of being an athlete.

We did not touch on the topic of success in life at all. For that matter, how can success in life be defined? The definitions are vastly different materially and spiritually.

        Haribol,

        Your servant,

  • My question is that, does doing Puja (Devotional activities) or believing in God make people adarshwadi (ideal person) ?

yes. but only if it's done under proper guidance.

Srimad Bhagawatam canto 5 chapter 18 verse 12

    yasyāsti bhaktir bhagavaty akiñcanā
     sarvair guṇais tatra samāsate surāḥ
    harāv abhaktasya kuto mahad-guṇā
     manorathenāsati dhāvato bahiḥ
    Translation:
All the demigods and their exalted qualities, such as religion, knowledge and renunciation, become manifest in the body of one who has developed unalloyed devotion for the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Vāsudeva. On the other hand, a person devoid of devotional service and engaged in material activities has no good qualities. Even if he is adept at the practice of mystic yoga or the honest endeavor of maintaining his family and relatives, he must be driven by his own mental speculations and must engage in the service of the Lord’s external energy. How can there be any good qualities in such a man?
atheist cannot be adarshvadi. he can't take pain for others.

what does in actual it means?

Does Adarshwadi means the people who are principle centered life living?

It is explained in Bhagawad Gita

Bg 16.1-3 — The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Fearlessness; purification of one’s existence; cultivation of spiritual knowledge; charity; self-control; performance of sacrifice; study of the Vedas; austerity; simplicity; nonviolence; truthfulness; freedom from anger; renunciation; tranquillity; aversion to faultfinding; compassion for all living entities; freedom from covetousness; gentleness; modesty; steady determination; vigor; forgiveness; fortitude; cleanliness; and freedom from envy and from the passion for honor – these transcendental qualities, O son of Bharata, belong to godly men endowed with divine nature.

Bg 13.8-12 — Humility; pridelessness; nonviolence; tolerance; simplicity; approaching a bona fide spiritual master; cleanliness; steadiness; self-control; renunciation of the objects of sense gratification; absence of false ego; the perception of the evil of birth, death, old age and disease; detachment; freedom from entanglement with children, wife, home and the rest; even-mindedness amid pleasant and unpleasant events; constant and unalloyed devotion to Me; aspiring to live in a solitary place; detachment from the general mass of people; accepting the importance of self-realization; and philosophical search for the Absolute Truth – all these I declare to be knowledge, and besides this whatever there may be is ignorance.
