I have always questioned myself in my head what it means for me it means usually like what you see in book or movies, the spiritual master says 'go get some wood for the stove to his brahmacharis' or clean the house from top to bottam' or make some food etc (maybe) etc. TO ME this is serving its an Act of a person now the problem is..
If you Guru is no londer present its impossible to do these things esp now.. some peeple accept a Guru ... i know Guru is representative of God .. going all the way to Naradha, Brahma etc... so IF your Guru says RIGHT chant this MANTRA....
In my mind I cannot understand how by chanting A mantra YOU are serving Guru..
DO you understand what im asking here?
How do you exactly serrve GURU by chanting or offering food. It doesnt seem like a normal act like getting his shoes or cleaning his room or getting firewood etc.

PAMHO.
Guru and disciple relationship is in the spiritual realm. So we cannot understand by material standards. When one accepts someone as guru, it means he accepts that personality to take him back to godhead and that personality has agreed/ promised to take the disciple back to God. So it is commitment from both sides, disciple agrees to abide by the words of the guru and follow his instructions, render menial service, whereas guru agrees to impart spiritual knowledge and take the person back to Godhead.
Guru says the way back to Godhead is to chant. He demonstrates by chanting himself. So disciple is expected to follow. Moreover, this is the only principle promised at the time of initiation. Following 4 regulative prinicples is niyama - to abstain from 4 things mentioned as restrictions.
At the time of initiation, disciple promises to chant 16 rounds of mahamantra and guru takes 1/4th of the sins committed by that soul till then. So if disciple breaks the promise, then there is reaction - paap karma. Because guru has taken 1/4th of the karma and disciple is not fulfilling the promise, then guru also gets karma. So by following the chanting principle, one is serving the guru by keeping his part of the promise.

I try to do 2 rounds japa and 10 mins reading bhagavatam, i created by own website lol to read it and an android app. (i know its wierd but there u go).
Its quite funny before i didnt have guru i used to chant 16 rounds, etc but then i stopped for years then started again when i have guru then i stopped again for years then started again then stopped you get the general idea. Not sure why that happens.
So are you initiated? When? and who is your guru?
If you are initiated, it isnt at all funny that you are breaking your vows taken voluntarily by you at the time of initiation. If all you can spare is 10 min for SB reading and 2 rounds of chanting, then how do you propose to attain perfection in this lifetime and go back to godhead at the end of this life?

Yes it is. But if you are putting only Rs. 0.01 in the bank, how long it will take to become substantial?
